I'm hoping by the time I get out of college (in 5-6 years), stocks will start booming again and I and others in my field will easily be making 6 digits :)

So what'll be big 6 years from now?

Uhhh, the definition of a recession is two straight quarters of negative real GDP growth. We haven't even had a recession yet.....

Well all I'm saying is the outlook isn't that great by the time I graduate. Bad economy, means no one will be building, which means, archy's will be outta work... :frown:

I agree with wyvrn.
The economy is great, just not growing as fast as it was 2 years ago. Definitely not a recession...

Expect continued layoffs, and declining sales for about 1.5 years. I would safely say, if your company is still in business in 1.5 years , it will once again prosper.

Stay in school otherwise, the IT job market sucks bad now and will continue to do so for a good while.

You must be young. what we are experiencing may be a dawn of a recession, but this is no recession, not even close.

This man spoke the truth.

The recession was nothing when this thread was created. Easily now with unemployment up 20-45% by city and no jobs for the middle class, it is much worse.

By the way, are we on our way up? Or is that all talk?

Eh, 2009 recession is all but over where I'm from. Sure, the US dollar is fucked, and we won't be seeing US cars for much longer (we don't have US cars in this country any way, we prefer quality). Other than that, it's fine over here.

It'll end about three months before anyone knows it has, just like every other recession.

The most popular Fords in this country (Falcon and Fairmont) are Australian built, followed by the Focus which IIRC is built in South Africa. All Holdens are either built in Australia, South Africa or Europe. The Opels available here are either rebadged Holdens built in Australia or European built.

Wow, you must be on crack.

no, im not... i have never seen a famed euro car such as audi, vw, etc have reliability near american standards... not to mention when the famed Holden's came to america, they had some MAJOR issues with them... and the astra. and the catera (that was a holden iirc), everything you guys in NZ get are controlled by americans anyways pretty much.

Some Euro brands have decent reliability, most Aussie cars have horrible reliability. You're forgetting Japanese cars, many of which leave American vehicles in the dust in that regard. By the way the biggest selling vehicles in NZ are Toyotas, most certainly not American built or controlled.

stop arguing for your BF... this was the original argument
"(we don't have US cars in this country any way, we prefer quality)"
and instead, your boyfriends loose ass is getting reamed out and owned severely by my unreliable american cock.

That was a bit over the top. See you in 2 weeks. -Anandtech Moderator DrPizza
