To milk to consumers of their cash. Same as Lucasfilm with the Star Wars series. First a regular tape for $20, then the widescreen tape for $45, then the DVD...

Disney does play a lot of games with their movies, I guess for the demand/money it will produce.

It says here on Amazon that if you put your email in to be notified they will inform Disney of the demand.

Oh the wait though... disney will come around sooner or later and release it on DVD. I will be sure to snatch it up when it does show.

Hell I wouldn't buy it from them on VHS anyway...first of all VHS sucks. Second, I'm not so desperate to get a Disney movie that I'll waste 2 hours of my life on a VHS. :D

Disney took FOREVER to get on the DVD bandwagon and now they're being stingy with releases on DVD.

Actually i think they learned their lesson. Their 1st dvds sucked and were extremely overpriced. Recent releases have gotten a lot better:p As for holding back on releases, you can't expect them to release all their movies at once. They'll probably stick to their previous routine of staggered releases.

Lucas film on the other hand really rips off consumers. VHS? VHS widescreen(even less resolution). What a joke. Not buying any of those dvd's.. rental:)

They've released a bunch of stuff on DVD. In the past they've placed some of their VHS releases on moratorium (withdrawn from release) to gin up sales, only to re-release them later.

Searching the bestseller list for Disney at Amazon.com shows the following movies on DVD right NOW:

Fantasia 2000
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Fantasia 1940
Mary Poppins
Dinosaur (pre-order)
Alice In Wonderland
A Bug's Life
Tarzan
The Fox and the Hound
Robin Hood
Mulan
Pocahontas
Pinocchio
The Aristocats
Peter Pan
Hercules
James and the Giant Peach
The Rescuers Down Under

That's just an assortment from the first two pages. What's all the crying about?

FWIW, Disney movies are released on a 7 year cycle... every 7 years they get re-released in theaters or on video. Going by that the TLK DVD will either be in 2001 or 2002. It's part of their "Platinum Collection" (think that's what it's called) that will have one new movie released every year until 2010. Since TLK was their highest grossing animated flick ever, I'd say they'll probably hold off at least until '02...
