When will the iPhone drop in price? When will alternatives come out?

I'm wondering when it's going to drop in price, or when competitors will release something that can do things just as well as it. I like the idea of being able to multi-task so well on a pda style phone. I've been tired of windows/palm based ones for quite a while because they freeze or have issues every now and then, which isn't something I care for at all.

I don't think there'll be a price drop anytime soon. The cheaper version is supposed to come out later this year.

Ah, might interest me - I basically don't need a camera, functions of the iPod, etc. I just want a reliable PDA Phone with an internet connection at all times.

Yeah - you can find a phone like that (8525, Mogul, 755p) for a heck of a lot less than $500.

Sony Ericsson w960i, is coming out in october i believe. Probably won't be sold by any carriers here though, will have to be imported. And will cost a pretty penny. But it looks sweeeeet
8gb built in, 3g, wifi, touchscreen + keypad, UIQ 3.1 (tons of 3rd part apps) and the walkman player which is pretty nice...i will probably be getting either that or the P1

I had the w950i and I hated it. I ended up selling it back on ebay after a week. UIQ is the worst phone software. It's slow as hell and you need to go through like 10 steps for something that you can do in 2 steps on another phone. The online browsing was the worst. On the plus side, the walkman software was pretty nice.
And 3G won't work in the US since SE doesn't support UMTS for the US (I think only 1 of their phones does).

The w960i has just about the same specs as the w950i except it has twice the drive capacity and wifi.

if you're considering an iphone because of crashing issues, then think again. i've had the iphone since launch day (posting from it right now) and i can say that safari crashes and closes at least 3 or 4 times a day. Granted, the internet experience is unlike any other phone, but it's far from perfect. And you can't really call it a smart phone. It can't do simple things like saving images found on websites. In fact you can't save anything on the phone, outside of a few Apple-defined items.


Edit: haha, safari actually crashed again after i posted and the site reloaded.
