mwmorph - The only people who really that think that Taiwan is still a part of China are the Chinese "taught" to believe this. The U.N. doens't recognize it because of political/military pressure. To say that it is a 50 year Civil War is quite ignorant IMO. Most Taiwanese people just want to be left alone by China, and not have ballistic missiles flying over their island, and China threatening to take drastic military action if Taiwan tries to claim independence, which they already have in the first place. Any economic development in Taiwan, which is really the only thing that China wants, was not done by China, it was done when Taiwan was independent of China. Give it a rest.

you're right, Taiwan would take 2 steps back before it can take 10 steps forward. It will take some time to convert all them sheeps, but I would think in a good 10 year period, the new China would be far better off.

And in the near future, Taiwan would be more likely to accept unification if China is not as hard core as they are today.

I know a lot of Chinese students who wouldn't want to go back to China because of the conditions there.
I personally have no problem going back to Taiwan and take a job there (especially with my US citizenship to fall back on).

Which brings me back to my point, if all talented people are in Taiwan, it's only natural that we invent all the cool stuff and get all the sheeple in China to make our processors for us. As well as all other goods, which is why in the 80's and 90's, everything was made in Taiwan, but now they're made in China. All the chinese people have proved that they're easily led like the sheeps they are. Now some of the smart people were left in China, but most of them have moved to the US or are students in the US. Believe me, 90% of them won't go back to China either. Which is why China led by Taiwan is better...it's a nation of sheeple! If you remove the communist government and replace it with the democratic on of Taiwan, China would be as strong if not stronger than the US. Ultimately, the world economy would be stronger and everyone is better off.

All this talk is is pointless. The most likely situation is that Taiwan will gain full independence and international recognition some time down the line. The next is probably China annexing Taiwan after heavy reforms and such to its own government. Third is jesus coming back and making love to Mao's body. Fourth is Taiwan annexing China and rulling the main continent from Taipei
