Sorry if this has been answered in another thread, but I bought it a week ago, so when can we actually download it? I want to have it at midnight just like the next guy! And I hope it's an eastern time zone midnight, unlike stupid BF3 😳

I couldn't find this info on steam either.

follow @steam_games on twitter. They usually announce when games are ready to pre-load.

What kind of misguided soul wants a Bethesda game at midnight day of release? That's like, 34 patches too soon. If anything, how do I get Steam to post-load Skyrim after Bethesda fixes it and how do I make it automatically grab the necessary community patches.

LOL...look for these code words to tell when one of their games is out of beta testing, "Game of the Year Edition".

To be fair, I played New Vegas for 18 hours straight before I had any issues (save file lets you know how much time you got in). They actually get more stable and playable with each release.

Well, I'm not sure if you count New Vegas as a Bethesda developed game. Obsidian was the initial developer, though idk how much Bethesda code they leaned on. They were involved with the patches, definitely.

if like most, it will be pre-loaded when the game owners tell steam they can. Most are about a week before and stagared for release (IIRC one game did a few GB updates on a few days before release.

Then of course, that is not all the game, you will have the final piece released on release day at what ever time valve gets around to enabling that last piece.

If you want it at midnight, pre-order from a bricks store and pick it up that way.

Don't get me wrong, pre-loading can be good. Unfortunitly for me is that for my country, valve's countdown is correct, but they talk US dates, We are ahead of them. So for us, it is generally nearly a day after the timer has reached "zero" that the game starts to unlock.

If you buy a boxed game in store, can you get the DLCs off Steam later or you'll have top wait for boxed DLCs?

(I don't why but I think it's a stupid question 😛)

You guys who wait for the bug fixes and patches are crazy. I get to play one game on launch and then play an entirely new game six weeks later once the patches come out. Double the fun for.. I guess twice the price since the price will probably be cut in half by then 😀

It's a steamworks game so you can get the DLC off steam. Though you are certainly better to wait for a game of the year edition and buy it again, it's usually much cheaper than buying the individual DLC.

I got my friday off...damn it'll be a nice day!
I packed up on fresh espresso coffee (Ethiopia Yrgacheffe) and lots of healthy food!

Too bad that I have a hockey game at 3pm...😛

Bethesda never fixes their games - that's left for third party modders. Even just comparing the number of straight bug fixes applied by Bethesda to those in the unofficial oblivion patch gives a great perspective on this.

Me.

and..pre-load complete, that was disturbingly small imo. Hopefully its just very compressed.

Any idea on the total download size? I'm in Africa at the moment and my internet speeds aren't the best. I still imagine I'd be able to download faster than waiting for it in the mail, which will take about 10 days.

Looks like a 5.8-6gb download.

It's bigger than vanilla Oblivion's 4.18GB for sure (I guess it's a good sign, more assets, bigger world perhaps?). Also, the game apparently went Gold just one week before release, on November 4th, which might explain why we could only get the pre-load today from Steam (I guess that the game was sent or uploaded to Steam from ZeniMax/Bethesda just early this week).

rofl so true!!!! Put creative assembly and the Total War series on that list too!!! These games are so huge and ambitious there are BOUND to be numerous patches needed.

huh??? those must be some ridiculously low res textures!!! BF3 was 13gb, and modern game should be 12gb +.

Well, on my download page on Steam it was showing a little under 5.9gb when I was pre-loading the game. Maybe it's bigger than this when uncompressed...I dunno, I hope.
