They are starting too look like the Microsoft of Graphics Cards... i'm thinking it's only a matter of time before they dump AMD and Intel and make something called the...ummm... CPUforce. What do u think?

Nah, they wouldn't call it the CPUforce, that isn't truly renaming anything. They seem to like creating new buzzwords...lol GPU MPU etc...

I think they'll have to see how nForce does before the jump into another market like that. They have been growing and progressing successfully so far, but they haven't faced a company as big as Intel yet. They are not really in direct competition with the nForce yet either unless it is made to support PIIIs and 4s, but if they actually started producing processors, that would open a whole new can of worms.

could u imagine the price of cpu's if nvidia went into the market though. the competition would definitely drive cpu prices even lower! :)

I think nVidia would have to own their own fab before they could get serious into CPUs.

I think outsourcing production of GPUs, CPUs and Chipsets would get pretty pricey.

personnaly, i would rather have them stick with GPUs only....specialization breeds superior products. i love my Ultra, but am waiting on buying a GF3

I think they can quite possibly within 10 years make an integrated chipset, CPU, GPU, etc.

Well, in 10 years, we'll be using 2+ ghz palmtops.

I don't think they could make a CPU.
I mean look a via's Cyrix3.
They payed for a profesional disign team and still only got a mediocer CPU

The design team that via bought was small (IDT had a small design team, small processors, low performance, low power dissipatoin, and small die sizes). Nothing changed really when VIA bought the team. The Cyrix III is based off of the winchip 4, which was an IDT design.

So does competition. With the crap Intel has been producing lately no intelligent individual would actually buy one! But thier next chip will have to kick ass.

This will be the say I switch over to a new architecture.... Hrmmm sparc, alpha, or powerpc....

come on guys selling CPUs isnt like selling hotdogs
first they have to make one which coasts alot lot lot of monay then thay have to build fabs
after that face intle and AMD which will be unreal then they have to get a (name)
i mean not every one in the world read reviews a normal person would say Ohh P4 1.3ghz it most be real fast ill buy it (remmember they dont sell cpus only in the states)there are 6biilion people out there and less than .001% of them knows that p4 1.3 ghz is the slowest cpu on earth

Nvidia should stick with video. I prefer people making quality products instead of making new products just so they have to beat the stupid competition. That's why Intel Chips aren't built like the use to be.

NVidia wouldn't need to build its own fabs to make CPUs; I don't think they own any fabs currently - don't they farm out production to other company's fabs? They could do the same with a CPU design.

But you won't see nVidia getting into the CPU business. It's a commodity market now, with near top-of-the-line CPU's selling for $200-$300. The sheer cost of designing a superior performance intel-compatible CPU from the ground up, while dodging patent lawsuits from Intel and AMD (or paying big licensing fees), would make it very unlikely they could ever recoup those substantial development costs, given how cheap AMD's and Intel's powerful processors are selling for now.

I think the only reason nvidia ever came into the the motherboard market was because Microsoft hooked them up with a lot of money. They dont have that kind of funding normally.
