When will Microcenter stock the Q9650?

Does anyone have any clue about when Microcenter might start stocking the Q9650? The processor has been out for a few weeks now but they still don't have it, whereas pretty much every place online does. I called my local one and their people didn't know anything.

Don't know if users here know about this type of inventory stuff, but I find it odd that such a big player doesn't have a newer Intel CPU yet.

I live in north Jersey, there's a Microcenter near me but no Fry's. And I'd like to buy from a retail store because I've had too many problems with RMAs/exchanges from online purchases.

MicroCenter doesn't stock all of the CPU models. They don't sell E8500s or E8600s either.

To many problems with CPU's ??? I have bought dozens maybe close to 100 over the past 3 or 4 years and not one CPU has had to go back, perhaps its not the store that is the problem !!

I see. Well that kinda sucks.

First CPU I ever bought was faulty. Never suspected it was the CPU for a long time (for obvious reasons), so I ended up in a horror show of returning/exchanging motherboards. And all this stuff was bought online, so I had to ship stuff back (and pay shipping costs, but it was the trip to the fedex center that was more annoying). I wasted *weeks* of time and untold effort trying to isolate what the problems was, and dealing with the RMA process. Also ended up with an extra $230 motherboard after all was said and done, but it was the time and endless frustration that I really care about. It was just a nightmare, and set me back at least a full week in my actual work, probably a couple weeks.

So am I loathe to buy CPUs or motherboards online ever again.

How would you troubleshot differently had you bought at a store ? You would have went through the same diagnostic process. Its not the online stores fault the diagnostic process took so long

It will not be any easier of a troubleshoot if you bought from a store, If you are suggesting you will walk into a Microcenter and say

"these do not work replace both . " Not so sure they will do that, they may actually tell you to send them in to RMA with the Mfr

In any case Microcenter caters to the general needs of the masses and a proc from each segment suit the needs of many, thats why they do not carry every single model proc

Actually returning both of them is exactly what I could have done. The Microcenter I know doesn't ask questions when it comes to exchanges, they're pretty robotic about it.

And I could've avoided the diagnostics and just had Microcenter do them in the first place, if I'd known about them at the time. After tons of troubleshooting and a new mobo I finally suspected it could be the CPU, and went to the Microcenter service center; they were skeptical when I told them I thought it was the CPU, and surprised when that turned out to be the case, but they confirmed it. All for a measly $30 and about an hour of waiting - and it's fun to wander the store anyway :)

Also Microcenter is pretty huge with a diverse selection including tons of niche stuff, the Q9650 is the first thing I've seen that they didn't carry, which is why I was surprised. And I wouldn't call it a niche product anyway.

I learned the hard way that buying stuff like this retail, when available, is just superior for me personally. So I hope they eventually carry it in the next few weeks, when I plan to buy. If not, I'll have to order it online, which is hardly terrible (unlikely that bad CPU lightning would strike twice) but certainly not preferred.

Why the attitude? Anyway, as I said in my first post, I did ask and they don't have a clue. Which figures, because most employees and sales reps tend to know little about this stuff, they're often the last to know. I was thinking more savvy people around here might have some guesses.

I dunno, but they don't seem to carry the E5200 yet either. I asked and they didn't have it. Surprising to me, that's the new budget chip to get.
