I was curious as to when memory prices will begin to fall? I am specifically looking for 512MB of Corsair PC2400+ memory, but most prices for that are around $200 which is a little high for my tastes at this time. I heard that in a month or so memory prices will begin to fall, but I havent seen that happen yet. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

At which store did that price fall? I would preferably like to buy the memory at Fry's so that I can return it if there are any problems.

He's probably speaking of ram that can be bought at Crucial.com.

Retail storefront price has little if anything to do with the current price of ram. Storefronts carry inventory, and even if ram prices drop they're not going to go under their invoice unless the situation looks hopeless.

If you want cheaper ram, gotta buy online. And with Crucial ram your chances of problems are as low or lower than ram that's been bounced over to Frys and tossed around in the back room by bored stockboys playing football.

Damn! I didn't realize Newegg had some PC2700 DDR SDRAM for ~$120. Maybe it's time to upgrade after all. :Q

Well here is the thing, I preferablly would like Corsair memory, and would like to buy it at the local Fry's so that if something happens since memory is very delicate, it will be easy to return. Plus all the Crucial memory is CL2.5 and I do not think has a heat spreader, even though it is practically worthless. I am thinking of getting a 256MB stick of Corsair PC2400 memory to see if it will be enough to cure my BF1942 memory woes. That game really does suck a lot of memory, 370MB in task manager.

Thanks Kirk! Does anyone know if Fry's sells Samsung or OCZ memory? I would assume so, but if there is any confirmation. Plus, the reason I wanted to go Corsair PC2400 is because my mobo doesnt like to go past 145MHz and when I do my future upgrade it will be new much faster chips. Probably the next time I upgrade memory will be during DDR2 time. But thanks Kirk none-the-less a very good read.

Stay away from OCZ memory. If you want more info, just search here to get more info than you ever wanted to know about it. :|

The window of opportunity may be about to close.

NewEgg raised thier prices, but Crucial is still holding their price.

mrman, what is your motherboard. it might not be the memory holding u back from OC heaven((will need faster ram for over 150/with crucial 2100 i hit 155Mhz/ i got samsung ddr3200 256 runs @ 166 cas 2,2,5,2 t1 no prob and no added volts)). It might just be a setting that is not letting you achive what you want. for example, after messin with bios settins for 2 days, i finally found out that if i wanted to go any higher then 146MHz FSB i needed to set my DQ command at fast or normal for the CPU on my ABIT kr7a. Once i did that 166Mhz was easy. and it could go higher but i didnt want to push it.. my goal was 166. Make sure that u have compound on the HSF on your northbridge. and for more info corsair uses hand picked modules form companys like samsun to get there XMS type memory. best bet is NEWEGG.COM they have good return policy.

I'm using pc2100 is my system since I have a older mobo which is a Epox 8KHA+ Rev2.0. It does support pc2700 but I can't find the need to upgrade to it. The system I'm running now is working great and very stable. Plus can handle all the games I play at 1024x768 at the highest settings without problems.

Would not mind getting a 2400+ processor for this mobo.
