My friend was trying to sell me PC2100 256mb rams for $50 / piece.

I said memory price is dropping and will continue to drop.

He said memory price did grow up last year... is this true? Will memory price ever rise? Did it ever rise?

that $53.99 512MB PC2100 DDR from crucial is mighty tempting. *must resist temptation*

you should just goto Crucial's, newegg, googlgear etc, and show your "friend" their prices. I think the average price is 37.00 and that includes shipping.

Yea, I told him about the price and he offered $35/stick, but still on the high side for used ram. His defense is that ram is going to go up in price eventually.. but I don't believe in that. I never seen ram price go up in the last 2 years.

Wow, he saving you around 3.00 dollars compared to newegg and googlegear price for Crucial DDR2100 256mb. Even Fry's Mushkin DDR 2700 is only 39.00 dollars for 256 mb.

Why hasn't anyone anwered this question yet? Must be because this was posted on the off topic forum. Yes, ram prices went up last year. I bought some 256mb crucial for $23 last year but right after that it started going up. Reached about $60 or $70 eventually I think. RAM prices fluctuate. Last year's rise wasn't the only one ever.

want to buy some ATI stock @ $40/share? It was there and probably will be in about another 5 years, so I think it's a fair price. :p your friend has awful logic.

well if your friend tried to sell you that stuff within the last two weeks he's not your friend.

first of all you sell stuff for half or less of what its worth new to your friends

2nd of all you don't charge more then market price.

3rd 256mb sticks are too small now, very unattractive. nearing obsolecence

PC2100 256's went as high as $70 on the spot markets back in July.

It also had a big spike around December IIRC.

He probably paid $50 for it back then and wants to get rid of it for what he paid.

RossMAN's deal seems to be the best for now, but only if you need only one. Guys like me cant buy 1000 of them at that price, because a $20 off coupon is not a progressive discount. :(

his defense for offering to sell you ram for $15.00 more than the going rate is that it will go up eventually??

Prices on 2700 will probably drop more before anything starts going up. 53 for 512 of 2100 is great.

I'll bet that it will be in the July - August time-frame before the memory prices start to climb again. Meanwhile, hold off a bit longer if you can, because there should be further drops.

i know.. what a sleaze:p like he's going to sell it for higher later on.. right:p its used, that cuts 50% off the price, he's your "friend", that cuts even more off.

256sticks area a waste of slots. goodlord. at frys you can get 512ddr 2100 for 50 dollars after rebate. and last week it was 60 without rebate.

he's not just a sleaze, he's a moron. money in the pocket is better then 2 sticks of ram in the drawer:p
