When will it be a good time in 2007 to build a new computer?

I was told by a friend who is well versed in Computer hardware to wait until at least june before building it, because of the whole AMD & ATI deal, amongst other things... do you agree that it would be a bad move to upgrade in early 2007?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Edit: Yes, this is for a gaming rig.

there's rarely a perfect time to build a PC, since there's always something better on the horizon. that being said, i'd personally be inclined to wait for mid range DX 10 cards if you can live with your current setup for a while longer.

What will DX10 offer that is so worth waiting? I am not trying to mean but I wam wondering

from the benchmarks i've seen, DX10's performance is considerably higher than DX9, and in the future, at some point, games will require DX10. This does assume the machine would be for gaming. If not, then disregard my opinion.

No matter what time you build it you'll always have Buyer's Remorse. Tomorrow's prices are lower and the technology better. That said, a few big things are coming through soon and as mentioned above DX10 is one of them. If I were you I'd wait until April when the Core 2 Duo prices are cut and we'll have a few more DX10 cards on our hands.

After First Q 07 would probably be a good time. New Intel procs and most probably lower DDR2 prices. And ofcourse new boards and revisions of current champs.

the best time would probably be a month after the R600/Vista release, whichever comes later...

The best time to buy is when you want to buy If you want a new computer now, get it! Why wait until June? If in June you decide you want something better, then just sell the stuff you have.
