It's not unique to one culture, I've been hosed many times by my family. Many of my friends have as well(by theirs), it just seems to be hard to avoid. I finally gave up on my immediate family, but at some level I just really want to be able to trust them.

I have a $30k bad loan loss to my parents. It's not like I wasn't aware of the risk in the "investment" but no bad blood because I know they can't pay it and fuck they sacrificed a lot to raise me.
