WHen Will honda's/acura's come with a V8 engine?

Toyota stepped into the light with the V8 based Tundra, and supposedly the new Supra that's coming out it suppose to be based off the same V8. What about honda? THere fastest engine I can think of is the V6 on there Odysey Van which they flip 90 degrees and sell it as a motorboat engine also.

Just curious.

You didn't look at the other topic on the front page did you? The entire discussion is about Honda not making a V8.

I found the quote I was talking about n the other thread:
Honda Wary of Building V8, Chief Engineer Says

By: Norihiko Shirouzu, Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal

LOS ANGELES -- A senior Honda Motor Co . executive said the No. 2 Japanese auto maker likely won't build a V8 engine unless it could improve the engine's fuel economy and emissions beyond the industry's norm.

He said one way to address the lack of V8 powertrain options in Honda vehicles may be to create a propulsion system that combines a V6 engine with an electric motor to offer V8-like power.

Tomoyuki Sugiyama, an executive chief engineer of Honda's research arm in Japan , said in an interview here that Honda remains apprehensive about making a V8 engine if it is the kind that guzzles gas.

Some Honda dealers have been asking Honda to offer V8 engines, but the company has insisted that its sales of full-size vehicles aren't large enough to justify a new family of big engines. Other dealers also want Honda to build pickup trucks, a move that could justify developing a V8 engine. Honda admits it has " studied" the possibility of developing pickup trucks, but Yuzuru Matsuno, a Honda spokesman in Detroit , said the auto maker hasn't made a final decision on the possibility. Honda isn't likely to enter the pickup-truck market any time soon, he added.

Mr. Sugiyama said that as a corporate strategy, Honda "tries to put a higher priority on safety and environmental friendliness" over sheer power. "We won't likely develop V8 engines unless we can come up with a technical solution to their fuel economy and emissions" and make them a standout in the industry.

One solution the company is considering, Mr. Sugiyama said, is to try to create a V6 engine that can put out V8-like power, instead of trying to develop a cleaner and more economical V8 powertrain.

"That's one direction we could take," he said.

Nah I saw more flaming about than engine talk. Plus the thread is very long (too lazy to go thru it).

Probably when the market deems it necessary to do so. Last I checked, Honda's cars were some of the best selling vehicles in their respective markets. I'd say there isn't really any need at the time.

Read as: "I saw the thread, it was over one page, so I did not bother clicking on it"

Yea thats wut I was thinking too, but does Honda even have a V8 on there roadmap? BTW you think they can make a V8 car LEV(low emssions)?😀

The next NSX was supposed to be V8. Has that changed?

in the quoted article, they are talking about having a hybrid V6 + electric motor to get a combined power of a V8.

ZV: I think the powertrain has shifted to a combined V6+electric. They had a conept that had over 400hp with 35mpg or something.

THanx for bringing that out of the other thread. Now I wont have to go thru it.

Honda doesn't fiddle around with forced induction either. No need to. They've got a V6 that runs 0-60 in under 6 seconds, gets over 30MPG, does it on regular pump gas, and still has one of the most reliable engines out there. Do they have any need to develop anything else?

When you have the number one selling car in America, there isn't much incentive to rock the boat.

Its nice to know that some comapnies still care about our home.

Not gonna happen. Even if it does, they have a reputation of having small reliable efficient engines - it'd be tough for them to pick up on the line of V8 powered vehicles and be successful, when other carmakers have dominated that market for so long. Nothin like a smoggy old 350. 😀

What car are you talking about ?

The Accord V6 maybe? With the automatic transmission it gets 30mpg highway. Text

6 speed V6 Accord Coupe.

Interesting.

I have no doubt that they could make a fuel efficent V8 .. At least, as fuel efficent as a V8 can get..

They'll do it if they see a market for it. If not, they won't.

Why would Honda manufacture a V8?
They are kings at small fuel efficient engines.

I wouldn't mind seeing a low displacement, high revving, low emissions V8.

Honda could do it if they wanted to.. But they won't unless theres a market.

Thoes only sell in Europe, where insurance costs are directly proportional to displacement.

They have sub 6 0-60 tmes?

I've seen some forum postings of people hitting that. Probably not the best on the clutch though 🙂 Honestly though, most reviewers are getting 6.2-6.4 which is pretty damn respectable for a car of it's displacement, efficiency, and longevity.

Soooo the new NSX, if it ever comes, won't have a new V8 then eh?

F355/F360 - best v8 in the world... 😀 for me at least. 🙂
