When will Core i7 CPUs and Motherboards drop in price?

Looking to build a Core i7 (920) build, but prices are still quite high. Based on the roadmaps and historical evidence, any idea when they'll drop to a more reasonable price?

Right now they're $300 for the CPU, $200 minimum for the motherboards. If I get an ATI 4870 1gig card, then I'm looking at $700 for those three components alone.

Since I spent about $500 for my previous computer which has lasted 5 years (yay XP 2500+!), I'm a bit hesitant to dump over $1k on a new computer.
 
Considering the features, core i7 MBs are reasonably price now.
If your budget won't allow for an i7 upgrade, go for a core 2 quad build.
 
I can honestly say I haven't regretted spending my money on an i7 system. It's been rock solid and performing better than I had ever expected.
 
My take on Intel's marketing and roadmap is that i7 will not drop all that much. Core i5 is to be the moderately priced i7.

Any more information about Core i5? Expected release dates, comparison performance expectations to i7, etc.?

It's a long shot, but I absolutely hate buying items without doing my due diligence prior, even if money isn't really a factor.
 
I'm not to familiar with the site, but vgchartz is claiming i5 has been pushed back to Q4. Anandtech has an older article listing availability in the 2nd half of the yer. It seems that with both AMD and the economy performing poorly there is little reason for Intel to hurry.

I agree. I have been a budget build guy my entire life, my most expensive PC was a $700 Toshiba laptop 4 years ago. I spent about $1300 on my i7 machine, including a 22' Monitor and have no regrets. It simply flies compared to everything else I have.
 
I just bought my I7 920 so I hope it holds its price. I just hate it when prices drop after buying it and there's no price guarantee

The 920 is, assuming you actually need the multi-threaded performance. IMO the 940 and 965's prices can't really be justified by anyone who dosen't have money to burn.
