When will Augusta give up the fight?

It's obvious that all the politically correct people and all the news and sports stations that make a big deal when someone speaks up for letting women in are going to force Augusta into letting women in sooner or later.
When do you think they are going to crack and give in?

I think it will be before the Masters next year so there are no organized boycotts.

BTW: I think it's bullsh!t that they are being forced to do this because it is a private club and they should be able to do whatever they want.

I highly doubt Augusta National will give in.

Ever.

These women's organizations need to STFU. Boo hoo, you can't be a member of Augusta National. You know what? Neither can I. Does that mean they should sell discount memberships? No.

I think the chairman of Augusta National, Hootie Johnson put it best: "Johnson said that Augusta National, "will not be bullied, threatened or intimidated. . . . We do not intend to become a trophy in their display case."

Note that i'm not a sexist pig, I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

I think that's a good way to put it, because a "trophy" is exactly what Augusta is to these women's groups. They must be denied their prize!

I think they will eventually allow women to join. But they'll do it on their terms, and make it appear that they did not bow to societal pressure to do so. Especially since Augusta members are pushing for women's admission. story

I actually have a standing bet with a friend concerning this matter. He believes there will be a black member at Indian Creek before this happens.

i don't think they will cave any time soon.

those guys are richer than hell and no media pressure/boycott is going to make them cave.

as long as it is legal, they will keep it male only.

Hopefully never.

Well, the thing is, i bet they would have allowed women eventually no matter what. The problem was that they didn't want to be seen to be forced to due so by an outside party. Eventually, they would have to acknowledge the changing times, just like when they started admitting black members.

Why do you say this?

I read in Sports Illustrated of an All-women's golf course that still doesn't let men in. That golf course shoudl change if August changes.

I don't understand why women's groups are focusing their total attention to some golf course. Seriously, it's not like theres graver things going on in this world besides a PRIVATE golf club not admitting women. 99% of the population of the United States can't get into this club, that oughta tell you something.

That being said, I think it will happen eventually. Eventually the membership will admit women, but some psycho feminist organization is not going to hold any sway in this, no matter how much they'd like to. I just find it puzzling that they worry more about a golf course than severe abuses going on elsewhere (of which there are plenty of)

Didn't Augusta use to be white only?
Augusta will never allow women. Open and shut case.
Didn't a lot of folks were saying the same thing about black students a few years back in Alabama? Can't remember the name of that famous
governor who made that speech.

The claim is made that excluding women from joining cuts them out of business opportunities because a LOT of business is conducted on the course during games. And with that point, the feminazis do have a point.

Actually no. Trying to compare a Public State institution that descriminated against blacks to Augusta(a private club) not wanting to allow women members is ludicrious. There is nothing even similar in the two cases. The governor you were looking for is George Wallace and he was wrong.

Also I don't remember anyone making segregation an issue until George Wallace came along. Sorry, but I am not going to apologize for something that happened 35-40 years ago that I had nothing to do with and never agree with it in the first place.

Not really. The course is only open for a few month of the year and most of its members are so busy that they only play a few times a year....hardly the Olympic-Level Meet n' Greet they're making it out to be.

I'm as much a feminist as anyone, but this is a private club, they are breaking no law of the land, and they host one of the true gems of professional sporting events every year. Martha Burk needs to just STFU and find a real cause to yell about.....there are certainly much larger and more pertinent women's issues today besides a f*cking round of golf with rich white guys a few times a year. :|
