Last time I actually used a 56k modem as my primary connection to the Internet was in 2002 or 2003 when I still lived with my parents. They live way out in the middle of nowhere, so it took until 2005 or something until they got 10Mb fiber. Since I moved, I've always lived in cities where proper broadband is available, at least 10Mb.

oh man.. worst was downloading the clips... a few second clip would take at least 5-10minutes, and most took longer than you could possibly wait.
but man.. vids were so cash then.

I think it was 2005 for me. Same situation except they never ran cable or DSL to my parrents... the just got an Air Card for $60 a month.

I can't even GET 10Mb and I'm in a top ten population center. In fact I'm within 30 miles of a CONTINENTAL POP where all the Internetz cables come up from the Carribean and South America. Still can't get a 10mbit connection.

Ha, maybe 2001? Moved home after school and my parents had dial up. Then I got a job and paid for mediacom.

Just to rub it in I live 30 miles outside of Minneapolis and have a 16mbps line for 29.99 from Charter.

My parents are still on dial-up even though cable has long been available and FIOS was setup for their neighborhood a few years ago. They're pretty frugal and just haven't seen the need to spend the extra cash on it so far. It's not like they use the net for much more than email and web browsing.

That being said, my dad has told me in recent months he's been considering FIOS.

May 2010. Our RAS server was acting up and I had to test. despite having VPN and available 3G cards for laptops, and web email... we still have a lot of people who feel the need to dial in to check email. It is so slow that is about all you can accomplish. But we still maintain an 8 line RAS server.
