I was driving through the neighborhood a couple years ago when I saw an old 5:4 32" Magnavox for free on the curbside outside someone's house. I had big ideas about hooking up my old N64 and SNES and retro gaming and an old CRT screen would be the perfect compliment.

Got it to my place, hooked everything up, played for a couple days, then realized that I liked the idea of retro gaming more than I actually liked doing it. Put the TV out on the curb with a "Free or $10,000 bucks your choice" sign and it was gone in a day. Some other dreamer picked it up I guess.

Otherwise the last CRT TV I owned for watching TV was my parent's hand me down when they upgraded to an LCD sometime in the very early 2000's. I remember it served me and my friends well in college.

still have one.
havent watched tv in 10+ years.

might get a lcd during the Superbowl sales because i plan on selling my house next year.
having a 24" crt in the living room is probably not a good look to potential buyers.

It's not that hard to sell a house with obvious termite damage and well, you can always find some type of buyer with black mold.

I'm sure your "pensioners live here" decor isn't going to specifically turn anyone away.

This was in my old neighborhood back in 2015. Apparently that's when someone decided crt was over for them

19” zenith space command from the 1980s, used until about 2015ish when I got a Vizio 50”. The zenith with analog cable was the quickest TV I’ve ever seen.

Mine was the 34 inch so even bigger! Worst thing was every place on the unit there was to carry the dang thing was semi-sharp and dug into your hands painfully!

Apparently they also made a WEGA (?) 36 inch 4:3 model which was OVER 300lbs!

I could have replaced the main-board for around $300 back then but I decided the money was better put towards the price of a Toshiba 37 inch LCD instead.
I had the 36" model (I was making bank back then). DVD were coming in wide screen Hi Def and were looking narrow vertically. I actually paid one guy to move it - he was a freaking monster, and picked it up without a harness and tossed it in the back of his truck. Can't remember the exact year.

I finally parted ways with my last CRT TV a few years ago. I wanted to use it to build an arcade cabinet, but then said screw it & went with an LCD. It's not as good, although you can put scan-line shaders on it & do some resolution tricks, but it's good enough. Sort of like how MP3 isn't top-tier quality, nor is Youtube's compression ultra-quality, but they're both "good enough" that most people don't really care.

Had a CRT TV till 2002 or so. You couldn't turn the volume down without the remote - which was missing. Had to watch it while pressing a telephone directory against the speaker with my foot, to avoid upsetting the neighbours.

Yeah I remember when we got a fancy high end TV in 1992. It only had one button, on the side, for power. Everything else was on the remote. Could be annoying.

i kept my rear projection 3 tube CRT based toshiba 61 inch TV until like 2009 when i replaced it with a mitsubishi DLP front projection setup.

before that, I used a regular 27 inch RCA CRT until like 2001 or 2002.
