Last time was about 3 years ago. Had major tooth infection, vomiting so bad I couldn't walk without wanting to puke, was dizzy and had a high fever. I felt bad for calling for what some might have called a tooth ache, but when I got to the ER the doc said it was good I had called because the infection had spread into the blood stream and likely would have killed me by morning. Plus trying to drive like that would have been hazardous to say the least.
 
Last time with an actual emergency? Hrmmmm. Can't remember. It's been a while.

Last time to place a test call? Probably a month or so ago.

Drove to her house to find her lying on the floor in her office, covered in her own vomit. She had been throwing up every 5 minutes for ~ 8 hours by the time I got there, and was so dehydrated that she couldn't move.

At that point, my EMT insticts kicked in and I knew I needed help. So I called 911. One of the few times I was glad that I knew the head of the county fire department, as his crew was at our house in just under 3 minutes.

In the end, my mom was fine. Still is. She just had a nasty case of diveritculitis (same thing that almost killed Brock Lesnar) and had to have bowel surgery.

why the hell would she not seek medical assistance after say like the fifth hour of up chucking?
 
Only time I have ever used it was when my wife fell down in the back yard and broke her ankle. Whatever she managed to do to it was bad enough that she ended up with a rod and some screws in her ankle to put it all back together. I was going to pick her up and take her to the hospital but it hurt her so bad to even attempt to move it I ended up calling 911.
 
Personally, probably 6 or 7 years ago when I had a gallstone attack in the middle of the night. Felt like a heart attack, but they didn't see anything when they hooked me up to take my pulse and listen to my breathing. The pain went away while they were there so I declined a ride to the hospital.

For someone else, it was last year. Wife and I were on our way home from the movies late at night when a couple cars wanted to race ahead of us after a turn - apparently they were clearing out the road for the guy on a motorcycle who proceeded to go flying past us at at least 90 mph. Unfortunately for him, that road has a gradual curve that you don't know about unless you've driven it before and he hit the curb. He went flying into the grass about 20 feet from the collision, and his bike was in pieces on the other side of the street. His "friends" and I went over to him to check and I was dialing 911 - they all got pissed and told me to hang up and he kept insisting he was fine because apparently he had done this before. Since I knew my wife was already on the phone with 911, I just listened to them and went on my merry way. Next thing we know there's multiple police sirens and their little mufflers racing down the street as they try to get away.

Oh, and the one before that a group of us were on the way home after a night at the Saucer. I-10 is about 15-30 feet below the access roads in downtown Houston, and this guy managed to come flying off an on-ramp onto the interstate. He rolled a few times in midair and crashed - a few of us got out to check on him and the girls called 911. The guy was completely drunk, and he fell out of the car I guess after it launched. Being drunk must have caused him to go limp because nothing was broken, and he was concerned about calling his ex-GF and letting her know what happened. Guess that's why he was drinking.
 
The last time was when I witnessed a nasty car wreck. Took them 25 minutes to arrive.. had it been more serious they would have been goners.
 
A couple of months ago I was leaving for work. Got out to the driveway and..... my car was not there. Having had one of my most recent cars stolen, I didn't think it was out of the question so I quickly called 9-11 and they basically told me they didn't care my car was missing and to call a non emergency number.


Then I went inside and called that number and while it was ringing I recalled that I had put my car in the garage because of the thunderstorms & hail the night before : )
 
Couple of weeks ago a college kid was weaving in and out on Genessee Ave. I pulled up to him at a stop light, rolled down my window and just glared at him. He then stated, "I'm going to die today." I called 911 after that as he went in a different direction. I wonder what happened to that kid.
 
I've never called 911, I have called the police a few times to report crimes. I also live about 15 minutes from a hospital and for some reason that is never the hospital ambulances take you to when you call (they always seem to go to the one 30 minutes away).

I have called 911 only once, that is when a house was starting to smoke(yeap, real house fire). I hope those people's insurance covered it.
 
1) When a buddy of mine had been drinking so much that he started vomiting blood
2) When a drunk and/or mentally unstable person was walking in traffic down the freeway
3) When a Fedex truck (big, three-trailer one) jackknifed and tipped over on a surface street just ahead of me.
 
About 8 or 9 years ago my wife and I were driving home after a Creed concert in Houston. It was around 11:30 pm we drove up on a head-on-collision between a 1/2 ton truck and a 1 ton utility van.

The car ahead of us stopped, and we were the first ones on the scene. My wife gets out of our SUV and calls 911, I get out and check for survivors.

The guy driving the van got out of his truck, walked to the side of the road and sat down.

The lady driving the 1/2 ton truck had crossed the middle line, went into oncoming traffic and she was messed up pretty good. She was incoherent like she had a head injury, and her ankle was broken so that her foot was twisted sideways.

Once about 12 years ago when I was working at a convenience store and a guy came in, stole a bottle of Listerine and tried to sneak out in a thin white plastic bag I could partly see through. He was really out of it and creepy. I told him I was going to call the police if he didn't give it back. He just stopped at the door and stared at me for about 30 seconds. I couldn't back down after I threatened to call the police, so I called 911 after about 15 seconds of him staring at me from the door. Halfway through the phone conversation he walked out and they found him a block away.

The other time was a year later when two guys broke into my house in the middle of the night.
 
yesterday, a very very over sized co-worker had chest pains and was sweating like crazy, emergency responders took him to the local hospital.
 
About six months ago. I was driving down a busy street and saw two thugs drop some homeless looking dude. There was a bunch of blood so I called right away thinking they stabbed him or something. Drove back that way and saw EMTs taking him. There was a ton of blood where he had been.

Same reason, last week and same reason two weeks before that. She was out of the psych ward for one day before doing it again last week, and she is currently is the psych ward again.

This has been going on for 6+ months, the first time she was in a coma for five days after her OD.

It's a mess.
 
Last April - Mom called me instead of calling 911 saying she was having a heart attack.

I then found out its not easy calling 911 on a mobile phone from a city a few hours away from your mom - having to transfer me was not a lot of fun.

And thanks for asking - she is recovering well.
