I just got the 60Gb version today. I didn't like the idea of having software BC because I have a 360 which i experienced software bc. It was ok in terms but flawed. Graphic issues or sumtin. Plus the new 40gb version is really gimped of its features like 2v4 usb ports and also complete removal of its bc. So get the 60gb now if you plan to use BC. but if your just going to play PS3 and Blu ray movies then save up your dimes and nickels for later. also make sure u get new firmware update for upconvert =P

e. wait for the mod chip to come out

i was so surprised the wii was cracked within a month. the xbox360 took forever.

the xbox360 took about 5-6 months to crack ... that is not "forever" by any means.

We're talking computers(close enough) here 5-6 months is an eternity.

I did finally buy a 60gb yesterday...I actually have no PS3 games for it yet, and I bought it primarily for HT reasons anyway. I did fire up a couple of old PS1 games--I can't believe how awful they looked. I knew they'd look bad, but some of them (Twisted Metal 2) looked horrendous. Symphony of the Night looked okay. As for the rest of the features, I am very much impressed with it as an addition to my home theater.

I believe you have to enable upscaling, because it's turned off by default. You may also have an old version of firmware that doesn't have it yet.

I am going to have to look at this myself. I picked up GOW 1&2 recently, started playing GoW1, everything looked blurry. ( PS3 -> 1080i set )

I'm in the same position, been tempted for awhile and looking for an excuse to buy one. I played about as many PS1 games on my PS2 as PS2 games before the console started crapping out. So the BC thing is very important for me.

Thanks for the support link search above for BC. The question I have is, are there any specific, well known examples of the 60gb model working when the 80gb does not? While the hardware BC is certainly nice, I wonder what real difference it makes.

EDIT: Found a good link that sort of answers my question. http://www.hardcoreware.net/pl...s-compatibility-sucks/

Be careful with games like GoW that support progressive scan. If you select that setting in the game, it will override any upscaling that the PS3 will provide.

Really should have bought it 11 days ago. Then you woulda gotten the 5 free blu ray movies. A big reason I got one a few months back. Just got the movies too.
