When to fix or buy a new Distributor ?

I'm in the middle of pulling the motor in the Cutlass to rebuild the engine. I looked at the distributor when I removed it and it seems to have alot of play when I move the shaft verticaly. The gear also seems to be worn.

How often do these need to be rebuit or replaced ?

Hi Jon, I think I would replace it. I don't know how many miles are on the engine, but if theres a lot of play it could have an impact on the performance. You can buy a rebuilt dist to save money. I think you should be able to get one under a hundred. If that doesn't work for you try a wrecking yard. Good luck!
