And you've tried all of this?

Yes, enable Turbo. As for offset, you should be able to set it to 0. If not, try +.005 first. If you can't to get it to boot with the 40x multiplier and offset mode, set voltage to auto and see if that helps. We can come back to tweaking it once you're booting.

If that doesn't work, my next questions:

When you first installed, had you OC'ed at all?

Also, have you tried setting the auto OC again? I know you said that you did it from within windows the first time, but you should be able to set it from the BIOS too.

Sorry you're having trouble. I'll be around for a while if you want to keep troubleshooting.

yea, i tried the suggestions. i appreciate all the help. when windows attempted to load "no bootable partition was found" came up every time. i first o/c about 2 weeks ago. ive only had the build up and running for 3 weeks. i guess i just took the easy way out and reformatted it real quick cuz nothing was really on it. i gotta head to work now, but i plan to resume o/c again prolly sunday morning. thanks again.

To be honest, this is for the best. Windows 7 takes about 20 minutes to install, and with a such new build, it's not like you're losing months/years of work and saved settings.

I'm assuming you've had no issues POSTing with any of the settings (default or what we've recommended here), so that's a sign that your overclock wasn't the culprit. Good luck with the new install!

Good point. You should be in AHCI mode unless you have a strong reason not to.

From page 57 of your motherboard's manual:

STEP 1: Set Up UEFI.
A. Enter UEFI SETUP UTILITY -> Advanced screen -> SATA Configuration.
B. Set the option “SATA Mode” to [AHCI]. (For SATA3_0, SATA3_1 and SATA2_2 to
SATA2_5 ports.)
Set the option “Marvell SATA3 Operation Mode” to [AHCI]. (For SATA3_M1 and
SATA3_M2 ports.)

i read a ssd guide for noobs prior to building this rig. it listed the importance of ahci mode and making sure trim support is on. cytoSiN, u think i should pick up a pair of gtx 460's for $200, or hold out for a new radeon with pci 3.0?

I think that's a better question for the Video Cards and Graphics forum if you want the pros to weigh in, but my advice would be not to SLI anything right now since a new cards are coming from AMD and NVidia in the coming months. I'm using a single 570 (a beast of a 570, but still just one) until I can decide what direction to head when the new lineups are out.

Have you finished the new Windows install? How's the overclock doing?

Pci 3.0 is useless for anything less than 7970 cf. I recommend a 6950 over 460 sli for peace of mind and enough future VRAM

up and running again, multiplier @ 40x in bios, speedstep enabled. running ibt, monitoring with core temp and cpuid hardware monitor. will reply with temps, pass/fail.

success. 2549.85 seconds. faster this time, does that mean anything? core temp (max) - core 0 60 cel core 1 66 cel core 2 68 cel core 3 66 cel. vid reported by core temp @ full load was 1.2960. cpuid hardware monitor cpu vcore was 1.24-1.26. ibt was set according to settings we discussed. very high (20 runs)

Looks good. The variation in tests doesn't mean much, it all depends on what processes are running in the background.

Nice! Your perseverance paid off. You've got a nice, solid overclock there with very nice temps and voltages (for IBT load). What does idle look like?

This is a good thread for me to keep in mind as I'll probably be oc'ing my i5 2500k on an extreme 3 gen 3 board. The settings should be similar, right?

Indeed. BIOS will look different, but in general the same parameters apply. If you're having issues or just want reassurance start a new thread and people will provide suggestions.

Seems decent to me. Your chip seems to like vcore tho. Did you play around with any other voltages? Sometimes a little more this lets you use a little less that.

Nothing wrong with playing around with baby overclocks. My 2700k will break 5ghz but I don't have any need for it. Been running at 4ghz for awhile now. My chip seems to sip the juice at 4ghz!

This was running prime. With IBT/LinX the vcore hovers around 1.152v's :)

Had to use a massive - offset voltage to get it down this low. I was more worried about the idle(0.872v) than it being stable under loads. So far not one hickup. Been running it at this for about a month or so.
