When the hell is Dell going to get off their ass

All i want is a kickass Penryn-based 1530 with LED backlighting. I'll even take the substandard 8600 video. Every other country and model has it, what are they waiting for with this model? If the 1330 had a more powerful video card i'd go with that just to avoid this silly wait.

The 8600 is substandard when compared to what? The 8800? Well of course, but in a laptop the size of the 1530, the 8600 is pretty good actually.

And I don't know why they don't have LED backlighting, maybe Apple is using all the 15.4" LED backlit panels in their MacBook Pros 🙂

Yeah, compared to the 8800. It's not ideal, but i'll take it if i can just get some LED backlighting and penryn.

Oh yeah, and how come my 4 year old 15" inspiron 8600 (from that legendary 750 off 1500 deal) can do 1920x1200 but the brand new XPS can only do 1680?

Well, there could be any number of reasons.

It could be that not that many people liked WUXGA resolution on a 15" screen.
It could be that res is too high for them to be able to claim gaming abilities (look at most 17" gaming laptops, 1440*900, 1680*1050 at the most)
It could be that yields were too low in terms of quality.

I heard in another thread that they did see the 1530 with the LED option, but not anymore. It could easily be a supply issue as to why they aren't offering it at the moment.

As far as the 8600 - substandard? Looking at the form factor it is in (trying to be a thin, 15.4"), I think that's pretty good.

Because Dell has to sell all of their stock of current 1530's before they can release a new version? An LED version at this time yielded a higher price then the average consumer was willing to pay vs. what it would cost them? There's probably a lot of reasons. And also 1920x1200 on a 15.4" screen is a terrible desktop resolution for a screen that size?

I used to do a lot of coding and WUXGA was perfect for that. It shouldn't come standard, but there should at least be the option for it.

Anyone have the 1330 with LED backlighting? Penryn is officially here and i've read some stuff that indicates that LED backlighting might not be worth waiting for. I want the 1680 resolution screen and some are saying it won't be available with LED and that it's also going to run several hundred dollars more. I'm not sure if that's worth the benefits. From what i can tell it's just a slightly sharper/more vibrant screen and a very small battery life improvement.

I'm surprised at how rare 1680x1050 screens are. My 2-1/2 year old Inspiron 6000 came with one and discrete X300 graphics (128MB) and cost only $1000 with 2 yrs. Accidental Damage coverage included. I'm starting to shop for a new laptop and everything is 1280x800 or 1440x900. I was looking at a MacBook Pro and it's $400+ more than a comparable XPS M1530 and the highest rez you can get is 1440. Yeesh.

My m1530 just arrived, 8 days before it was scheduled to get here. Dell definitely underpromised and over delivered on this one. I'm typing on it right now actually.

First thoughts:

- This thing is fast. I got the 9300 C3D 2.5ghz. It's quick.
- Biometric sensor is kind of a pain to setup but pretty cool.
- The appearance is gorgeous. Love the aesthetics.
- The ear buds that come with it are SWEET.
- Screen is gorgeous. Gloss isn't really a problem.
- Extended battery is cool but isnt that comfortable on your lap. It does raise the laptop to a comfortable height when its on a desk, though.
-It kinda comes up with a case. Pretty nifty.
-They paid attention to a lot of details. Ear buds are nice, it comes with a CD/DVD holder for all the OEM discs and manuals, and even a screen wipe.

I'm super happy with it so far.
