I believe f5 is soft refresh and ctrl-R is hard refresh (reloads cache). I could be wrong though.

Yes, F-Lock is evil. I'm used to using Alt-F4 to kill applications, and that never works when I first boot the computer because the damn default setting for F-Lock on Microsoft keyboards is off
