I suppose that part of the delay was due to the deaths of two cast members.

Aaliyah and Gloria Foster (The Oracle).

Oh man, the Oracle is dead?? What will the resistance do now without her guidance.

BTW, the last I heard it was supposed to be out the end of 2002, but got pushed back to 2003. I haven't read wnything lately about the schedule, though.

What? You would actually go see a movie with Aaliyah in it? I mean, her death was tragic and all, but she was a focking lousy actress.

Right, but hopefully it will be a better movie without the hip-hop/R&B flavor of the week playing "actor" in it.

It's for this exact scenario that they filmed all three books of LoTR at once.... good idea on their part! :)

Do you guys think they will try and do some CGI crap to finish the movie off without these two cast members, or do you think they will be re-writing the movie to fit around their being 'unavailable' to finish it? Sucks for the producers!

I heard on one of those hollywood tv shows that they've replaced Aaliyah already with some other actress, but I can't remember her name. None of the flming had taken place before her death, I don't believe. Not sure about the oracle lady, though.

What I read a long time ago was that they didn't want to rush production to meet a May 2002 deadline so they opted to release part 2 in May of 2003.

The Matrix Reloaded is set for a Memorial Day 2003 release, and Warner Brothers is currently looking to release The Matrix Revolutions on Thanksgiving that same year.
