when teaching someone else to drive, are you at all responsible if they wreck?

If I were to teach someone else to drive, if they get into a wreck at all, is any responsibility put onto me, since I would be the one with the valid drivers license and not just a permit? How does that work?

Depends on your local laws, but up here, your ass is grass.

You let your unlicensed friend take a spin in your car, "learning purposes" or not - and it's both your butts on the line. Also, don't expect insurance coverage.

Is that person insured to drive someone else's car? Does your coverage cover other people driving your car? Does the person have a learner's permit, and if so, are you 25 years old or older?

You better have a few "yes" answers before you do anything...

Even with their learners permit? Wow. Don't think I wanna get involved, if that is the case here as well.

Yep. Unless you qualify as the "fully licensed driver" that the holder of the learner's permit has to be with (up here it's 4 years of full license required) then you're toast.

Well, since 4 is a no, then you shouldn't do it. You have to be 25 or older to legally accompany a learner's permit driver....

bring the person to a parking lot, it's private property, don't have to worry about near as much there.. also, it's low speed obviously, so even if something were to happen, most likely wouldn't be as bad as on a city street.

if that helps you at all.. heh

Lies...

Back of my licenses...

"Learners Licenses has the following conditions:

1. Blah blah...

2. At least 21 year old accompanying licensed driver occupying the closest seat to the driver.

3. blah blah"

Good enough for me, thanks for the info. I thought you just had to be a licensed driver to accompany them(does this vary from state to state though ?).

Check the back of your licenses.... it might have the info you need on there. I'm getting my information from my Florida's Licenses. Same info on the back of Permits and Licenses.

Well yeah, that's how I was taught as well, in a large parking lot then 'graduated' onto low traffic streets then eventually normal driving. My question was just general though, if any sort of accident were to occur, who exactly would be at fault. Also I don't think I'd want to teach anyone in my vehicle, just because 1) i dont like people driving it, and 2) i wouldnt want any thing to happen to it.
