At this point in time, I would like to share my near-death experience while sitting in a friend's car a while back. Her MOM was the one driving it, and it was some family sedan.
Three lanes turning right (opposite of US over here), and we were in the extreme right lane.
First mistake, she started moving out when there were still cars coming in the opposite direction. Those cars had to swerve to avoid her. She stared straight ahead and didn't seem to realise what had happened. Me, I was trying very hard to move to the other side of the back seats, so I won't get killed if the van had plunged right into our car.
Then green turning arrow came on, and so all 3 lanes started turning. She went from extreme right lane to the extreme left lane when we finished the turn. WOOHOO!! Yes! 3 lanes turning at once, and she somehow didn't realise that! ALl this while the guys behind her were swerving and HONKING the hell out of her.
I really didn't know if she didn't realise, or if she thought people SHOULD give way to her cos she was a woman driver.
All I told my friend at the end of the ride was to let me know when her mom was driving. I'd make sure I wasn't on the roads then. 🙂
Hell, this story could be about my mother.....
As a kid I would never ride with her driving unless I absolutely had too. She would drift into other lanes (even when going straight) without noticing it. Then she would get angry at the drivers honking at her. She never had a clue why they honked. Then there were the green lights. When she was first at a light, when it turned green she would just sit there. It literally tooks a few full seconds before she realized the light was green. Often by the time she started to accelerate, it would have turned yellow already. Of course, she got angry when people behind her honked. She never knew why. The thing that confused me the most was when she was driving down a very clearly empty street with no lights, she would hit the brakes and harshly slow down, and sometimes completely stop for no reason at all. Just complete at random she would do this. I can see not being aware of stuff, but what in the hell was she stoping for?
Well, after this being said, somehow she hasn't ever caused a serious accident. Damned lucky.
Edit: Oh, I forgot, she recently drives an SUV. I fear for those around her
