When spiders attack

So this little guy got stuck in the web. I grabbed my camera, hoping to see if the spider would wrap him in front of me. Compared to the spider, the grasshopper was pretty good size, but nevertheless the spider grabbed him and took him to his lair. I was too slow on the draw to get a good shot of him grabbing him.

Option 1: Dig me a hole in the ground and build trapdoor web over it, where I can be trampled and easily preyed upon.

Option 2: Use that birdhouse over there and hope to God the camera-toting owner doesn't fill it with birdseed.
 
Is it just the ant that can lift up to X times its body weight ? How come they're not strong enough to get out of webs either ?
