When realistically should we see the next Nvidia video card that is faster than anything out there?

What lesson should that be?

Anyway, since the GTX1070Ti spoiled somewhat the beans i guess not before Computex next year, with AIB availability at Gamescom: unusual but that's my guess.

The shortest lifespan had the 7950 GX2 with nearly half a year, so i think 6 Months from now at best for the GV104 Lineup.


But don't shoot me when Jensen launches the GV102 Titan around GTC 2018 anyway...

Nice. Volta is going to be a high resolution beast with that kind of bandwidth.
Why? It will have the same GB/s as GP102. GV102 could scratch the 4K region a little bit more but for 4K Primetime (G104 Chip) i think we will have to wait for the "what comes after Ampere?" question to be answered around 2021.

With GDDR6 or HBM2 I would expect a nice BW improvement for Volta cards.

No, even with 14gbps GDDR6 it will be quite faster than GP102 in bandwidth.

670GB/s vs 480GB/s.
If its 16gbps GDDR6 it will have 770GB/s
 
~780GB/s is for GV102 (if everythings pans out right) and thats around GA104 Bandwith.

So to have the Bandwith of GA102 for the HPC high-margin market (G104) after Ampere , i think we will have to wait a little bit more.

GP102 (GV104) is the 2K allrounder atm and 4K is almost double the pixelcount.
 
Top GP102 BW is 548 with the Titan XP and GDDR5X
GP100 BW is 720 with HBM2

The Volta entries will Shirley beat those numbers.

14gbps is 23% more than top GP102 (Titan XP).

16gbps is 41% more than top GP102.

They'll need some serious ooomph to saturate 16gbps and the killer thing is that it will run more efficiently than even GDDR5. Looking forward to playing with high end Volta late 2018. Too bad it's not coming out sooner, it would be an incredibly efficient mining beast. I bet 130w for ~90mh/s in ETH assuming timings aren't horrible with GDDR6.
 
The way I see it is that a Titan card doesnt need to be presented at GTC if its built on the GV100 core with HBM which they have already announced earlier. That card could be announced just out of the blue.

While GTX 2080 and GTX 2070 etc will be so fundamentally different that its probably smarter to do a lengthy presentation at GTC with talks about the GV104 chip and the GDDR6 etc etc

Titan XV based on GV100 with Tensor cores and HBM2. Based on Volta.

Geforce cards based on the architecture Ampere that Nvidia will present in March.

Nvidia will likely "announce" the Ampere microArch for Tesla (A100) comes Q1 next year and hopefully "release" something volta based Q3 next year for the client (GV104).

You forgot about the GTX 560 Ti Core 448. Very similar to the 1070 Ti as launched very late and a new cut on an existing chip. Launched in November 2011, and the GTX 680 launched in March 2012. November for the 1070 Ti too...

With a MSRP of 289$. The same could be said about nearly all G92 iterations: ~3 months launchcycles per SKU with prices in the 200+$ region.

The GTX1070Ti and 7950 GX2 are HPC cards with MSRPs of ~500 up to 600$. So it's safe to assume that Nvidia will likely wait till Computex for the next HPC 500$ SKU.

First Gaming volta will be again milking midrange cards with 256bit.So no they will not have more bandwidth than GP102.
Big gaming volta 2080TI sure that card will be beast, but it is still year or more away.

I think we're all aware of how NVIDIA launches new series. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a late 2018 2080ti release and that's the card that those of us with 1080tis are impatiently waiting for.

It will have more bandwidth than the equivalent previous card, assuming it uses newer ram.

I'd expect 256bit 2080 to have slightly more bandwidth than the current 1080ti. Between that and architecture improvements it will be a nice card but I'm excited for the 1080ti successor.

I think it'd rate a slight surprise? They really do seem to like to have a ~30%(+ whatever) year on year increase on maximum total performance. Which would tend to imply little Volta early 2018 then big Volta in early 2019, if earlier in Titan form.

Unless of course Volta is on an 18 month life cycle, but the foundries aren't precisely speeding up on their new processes!
 
Again, Volta might not include Geforce cards.

Nvidia say that Volta is Artificial Intelligence Architecture.

Makes much more sense to let Volta be about Tensor cores which doesnt help gamers whats so ever, Nvlink and HBM2.

Ampere might be the architecture for the next Geforce cards, which will lack Nvlink, will use GDDR6 and wont have Tensor cores. Probably related to Volta in several ways but different enough to recieve a new name
 
Next gen GPUs will 100% push FP16x2 for consumer, and lower price point of VR, and 1440p, and 4K for consumers.

Thats why most likely Nvidia will reuse Pascal architecture, but - they will use GP100 architecture, as a baseline, instead of Volta, without Tensor Cores.
