When reading your psychology book and or history book what is the proper way to take notes?

What do you usually write down or try to remember? How do you take notes when the teacher is going over something and it's long but not in the book?

TEACH ME.

LOL i wish i knew... i went through university pretty much without taking notes.. and even if i did, i never could understand my notes again. I pretty much just read or listen until i completely understood what i was reading... if i didn't, i just reread it or asks questions until i did. Once i understood something, i pretty much remembered it for good.

BTW, most psych textbook chapters have a summary at the end... so use that to study (once you actually read the material that is). If there was something in the summary you think you missed or misunderstood, then go back and read the text.
