When putting the heatsink on the CPU has your screwdriver ever slipped?

Yes =( Unfortunately, I killed a brand new 8K5A2...it was going to be my new dream system equipped with the xp 1600 where I would've entered the beautiful realm of overclocking, taking that sucker to 2100 with ease. However, I couldn't wait for another one as they were out of stock and like an idiot, agreed to replace it with an epox 8k3ae which gave me nothing but problems. Oh god how I hated that system! Thankfully, it is all but a memory now.

It wasn't very hard, and I didn't hit any wires, but I have hit a motherboard with the screwdriver. It survived, and it is still surviving 2+ years later.

yep...but luckily the board wasnt damaged. i started to use a small pair of needle nosed pliars. put one side of it inside the clip, clamp down on the outside, and go from there. worked pretty good.

Absolutely nailed my mobo once. Didn't hurt it, though. Now I put a thick piece of cardboard under the clip as insulation.

No because I used needle-nose pliers - finesse rather than brute force.

High density polystyrene, sponge or rubber can also do the trick.

I cant believe nobody tried this....

Don't put your screwdriver outside the heatsink I use my screwdriver to push the clip down from inside the heatsink,pushing clip from between the fan blades.

This way if you slip your screwdriver isn't going anywhere.

Been there, done that...several times. The worst thing that ever happened to me was when I accidently pushed a system that was standing up over on it's side while installing a DIMM, and ripped the DIMM slot off!
