when purchasing snacks from a vending machine ..

just wondering if anyone else factors in cost per ounce of snack when deciding what to get out of the vending machine.

i walked past the vending machine and eyed up a bag of sourdough pretzels for a ripoff price of $0.80 for a 1.8 oz package. i about caved because of my love of sourdough pretzels when i spotted a 3 oz bag of cheez-its on the bottom rack for $1.

so i figured that for a 1.8 oz package of pretzels for $0.80, i was paying about $0.45 per ounce. the cheez-its work out to $0.33 per ounce of cheezy goodness, which is a much better deal.

anyone else think like this or is work way to boring for me right now?

When I buy something from a vending machine, it's because I'm hungry, and nothing else is cheaply and easily available.
So I go by price/calories, not weight.

I put a sign on our vending machine that had price per ounce by bin/selection.

I try to get my best bang for buck. I don't really look at weight. I know that a bag of Gadetto's snack mix has more "Stuff" in the bag compared to the three or four dorito's I would get.

I thought I was the only one that did this.

If I'm hungry enough to get something out of a vending machine and see more than one item I'm interested in, I'll go for the one with the greater weight (which is likely to have more calories and keep my hunger under control for just a little longer).

No I factor in the dollar per desire.

I go by what looks yummiest at the moment. I already know that I'm getting ripped off at a vending machine regardless of what I buy.

I buy by weight within reason. I won't eat what I consider to be crap just to get more, but I'll get the heaviest snack I consider acceptable.

Yep. Sometimes cake-like items are good calories/weight/price/deliciousness wise, too. Like honey buns. Sure, it's artificial crap that makes my stomach a little uneasy later, but stuff is good when you are hungry.

Yeah, and sometime I'll just throw a baked potato in the oven, even if I don't want one. By the time it's done, who knows?

usually honey buns win the weight/calories /price war, although sometimes I buy nekot crackers because they are only 50 cents and do a halfway decent job and are cheaper than anything else in the machine. I can get 2pk nekots for a dollar, but only one honey bun. 2 nekots = much better for you and fills you up as well as 1 honey bun, although it is still 15 cents more.
