Heh, not a totally mature rant, but what they heck.

A few months ago, I was waiting on a package to be delivered by FEDEX. Using the online tracker, everyday it would say "undeliverable to address." I was like WTF? So I called FEDEX and they said that they were going to send the package back. I had them read the label to me and the wrong apt number was on there. That was the fault of the people that shipped it. I asked "well, since it's at the hub, let me come get it!" They said "fine." So I did.

Fast forward to today. I have a package sitting in the FEDEX hub, but it's not scheduled for delivery until Tuesday. I called the 1-800-GOFEDEX number and they said:

No. You can't go pick it up. You have to wait until Tuesday. Period.

Of course, I was stunned. "WTF?" was more like it.

You, the AT community must tell me how to get my package today or Monday!! Please? It's at the hub which is literally a 10-minute drive from my house. :|

walk over to the facility (so the fuzz won't get your license plate)

break in, locate the package, return to base

It would be a lot of trouble for them to manage people coming in to get packages that are still in 'the system'. After delivery attempt is made, they probably get put into a holding area.

I've never worked at a shipping co. but I assume something like, "Hi, I noticed my package is at this hub. Can you go find it and give it to me?" A few dozen(hundreds?) times a day at each hub would take a lot of extra personnel to perform.

They want to make sure everything is delivered on time (because people can get their money back if it's late) so they want to get stuff to the local delivery hub as early as possible. But if they let people have it early, people would realize they could pay for a slower class of service but still get their packages as quickly as a more expensive class. That would be bad for FedEx, so they won't give it to you until the due date.

And KRANKY, I understand what you mean...unfortunately, it makes sense. So, my perfect stick of PC2700...the one that will help me determine whether my memory, motherboard or BOTH is bad won't be here to help me until Tuesday. *sigh* It's gonna be a loooong wait.
