...do you find it necessary to often repeat part of the alphabet song in your head to figure out where? I do, especially g through l.
 
For once I feel better about myself after asking ATOT a personal question. I thought that knowing the exact placing of each letter from instant recall was something really fundamental, like knowing one's multiplication tables.

tables are logical, the alphabet is not.
 
I did, when I was about 7 years old.

Now it would be like having to memorize a song to remember if 8 came before 9.
