When it comes to webhosting how much bandwidth per month is enough?

When it comes to webhosting how much bandwidth per month is enough? I mite make a small site of a bunch of pics of friends/family and all our friends will go there look at it, post comments, and just a thing to keep in contact thru when we goto college...any idea on howmuch bandwidth one needs? Im guessing five gigabytes should be good enough? Also anyone know a good webhost that is cheap meaning under like 30 bux a year that provides atleast 200mb disk space?

I am with Ripplehost. It's $5/year and you get 100 megs of space plus 1gig/month transfer. It's a personal webiste with some photo galleries and a few files. I even share my bandwidth with the GF and her site. We maybe do 200-300 megs of transfer a month. I doubt, unless you have alot of large files or they are surfed with alot of hits, you will ever go a gig worth of transfer a month with a site like that.

Maybe check them out. If you want to see the speed of the host, check out my link to my site in my Sig.

AddAction.net

Check out The Plan. Only $6.95/mo. but the 1st 6 mos. are free.

I have had a domain on ripplehost for a few months and have already had two outages. AddAction is much more stable and support is very quick.

honestly...with that traffic, you'll never hit 1Gb of traffic for the month. Think of it this way. Each hit ont he site will generally an average of 7kb of traffic. Multiply that by the avg number of hits and then multiply again by 25% and that should give you a decent amount of cushion for a low content site like yours.

hoenstly, with all the over inflated packlages and uberlow prices in the webhsoting market, I'm not surprised to see you saying you'd need about 5 Gb of bandwidth. You don't need much but with compeition like it is, you wouldn't pay much for 5Gb if you wanted it.

Of course I would have recommended AddAction.net especially with their first 6 months FREE offer ... however chiwawa626 is looking for web hosting under $30/yr which AddAction.net doesn't meet that criteria.

Is RippleHost still $5 a year? I see $9.99.

From what I have heard, they finally raised prices back up to $9.99/yr about a month ago.

So nope it's no longer $4.99/yr unless someone tries to sign up and tells me otherwise.

I can't believe I'm hearing people nitpick about paying $5 or $10 a year for webhosting.

😛

😀 I just want to use a domain for email and maybe the host a file or two once in a while. Do you guys recommend e-rice or ripplehost?

If you do not need any tech support then go with ripplehost simply because they use cPanel which I prefer over Ensim.

Even though they raised their prices to $9.99/yr for 100MB/1GB/FTP/email/webmail/cPanel it's hard to beat.

Just signed up another account a couple weeks ago, and it was 9.99/yr. I didn't even pay attention until it came out of my checking that it had gone up. Oh well, for $9.99/yr, I still can't complain.

NP and if you were a real salesman you'd sell him one of these.

You should be ashamed of yourself!

😛

Ripplehost uses CPANEL, and its only $10/year. It seems to compare pretty evenly with Surpass at their "learner" level.

The thing I liked about surpass host is they give you that Fantastico package...i know its easy to install yourself, but it just saves a bunch of time.. Also the Learner package gives me 300mb and 5gigs transfer as opposed to 1gig and 100megs

Thanks rossman for the links...ill check out that forum as well. Im undecided so far, but i will probably go with one of the ones you recomended.
