when it comes to computer hardware or other electronics, are you loyal to some brands?

i always recommend klipsch for speakers, asus for motherboards, logitech for peripherals, chieftec for cases, viewsonic and sony for monitors and lcds, HP for printers.

and for other electronics, i particularly like sony for pdas, digital cameras, tvs, dvd players, car receiver, etc etc.

and i don't like mixing brands like having a logitech mouse with a microsoft keyboard. or using creative speakers on a santa cruz sound card. i see owners who have asus nforce2 mobo's that use ati 9700pro on it. feels weird to see that, but considering the flop of the FX, those owners of nforce2 have no where else to go. seeing as i have a nforce2 mobo, i guess i'll have to make an exception when it comes to getting a good video card.

anyone else feel the same way i do about hardware brands?

I am, ASUS motherboards, IBM hard drives, Enlight cases although I'm going to start buying Antec, what else... hmm can't think of any others right now.

When it comes to things like dishwasher soap or envelopes, I'm not a brand whore but for electronics, I need the names since there's so much that can go wrong...

I am as a tie-breaker, but I always try to get product-specific information too. So many brands have had a lemon model or two that it's always better to read the reviews and forum posts first.

For example, Asus is usually good, but weren't a couple of their socket-A motherboards buggy and never really fixed, just replaced with newer models?

I've used MSI, Abit, Asus and ECS for mobo's, Only AMD for cpu's, Crucial, and generic crap ram, Seagate and maxtor for HDD's, MS and logitech for mice.. .oh and samsung once. keyboards... well whatever is cheapest. I prefer trinitron monitors.

interestingly the only brand i've had trouble with is ASUS mobo's. i had an NV7-266vm (or whatever that model # is) and it does not like generic ram. All other mobo's seem to run it no problem. Anyway, the next mobo i think i'll try is soltek

I tend to have a blacklist more than a recommended list. But I stick to high quality stuff always, I don't like to cut corners.

I prefer
Logitech Peripherals.
Sony or Philips monitors
Cases is far too much on dependant on personal preference so I recommend a few and let em decide.
Asus motherboards are solid and I feel so are MSI's
The rest I generally follow the number one rule - You get what you pay for.

Incidentally dionx, hp printers made it onto my blacklist. They've steadily gotten worse and worse and now I don't feel I can recommend them anymore.
