<< A couple nights ago I picked up Billy Joels Greatest Hits 1 & 2 and 3 >>

Very nice!

I agree that most napster mp3's suck, even the higher bitrate ones because the easier to use codecs are the ones which encode terribly. The best codec, LAME, is not as widely used.

If I want a high-quality mp3 I pretty much have to encode it myself.

I think the last time I bought a music cd has got to be like in 1996 or so.

Bought a CD for my gf as part of her Xmas present. Haven't bought a CD for myself in two years. Seems crazy to be a poor college kid and spend $20 for a piece of plastic that has one song I like on it.

I've probably bought 10 or so in the last month. Living in a college town with a HUGE used CD market rules :)

When I can get a lot of my music for $5.00 how can I turn that down?

I couldn't agree more! I love having the original CD but like I said, having thefts occur has jaded me slightly. If every CD was $5 I'd buy tons.

Last month. Bought 3 anime related music cds because Napster sucks for that kind of music. And I hardly download from Napster. When I connect it's for the benefit of others. I have a lot of Video Game music which attracts a whole lot of people. I mainly download from newsgroups for mp3s.

I only use MP3 to test out artists or to get songs I would never buy. MP3's quality is so terrible when you hear it through nice speakers or headphones, I can't stand it too long and just go buy the CD.

My last bought cd is unregretfully: Limp Bizkit- Chocolate Starfish... I actually kind of like that album.
But in the defense of MY personal downloading of music(maybe 5 percent of my collection doesent say TDK or imation on it), It is impossible to get ANY good HOUSE or TRANCE album locally, such as any Matt Darey or good Ministry of Sound album. The good stuff is always in europe, and who wants to wait 4 weeks and pay exorbinantly more for a cd set, when you can just download it.

Oh well.. THere ya go.. I feel much better now

Long time ago. All the punk bands I listen to aren't available locally where I live. Even when I go out of town to bigger places I goto a music place and it seems like all they have is popular stuff.

I download music as fast as I can on a 56K connection (with a Mindspring mandated disconnect every 12 hours, grrrr:|), but I have also bought 10 or so new and used CDs in the last 2 months, and I have several more on my "must buy" list. I love the ability to sample music on MP3 before I buy, but the sound quality usually leaves a lot to be desired, due to low quality <cough>xing</cough> encoders and poor rips. Who wants to listen to "snap, snap,SNAP,SRRIIIPP,POP!" all through the music. As a result, I've still burned far fewer music CDs (MP3 mixes excepted) than I've bought since I bought a burner. I also believe it's only fair to help out your favorite artists by buying the CD.

About 2 weeks ago... Bolt Thrower - "War Master". I buy about 2 cd's month even thougt I download much more music from pirate ftp-sites. If I found some artist that I really like I buy his/her CD even if I have those songs as mp3's already... quality matters !

Going to buy the new DMB & Flecktones albums today or tomorrow; other than that, I picked up a CD around 2 weeks ago - Left Hand Smoke, So Many Faces.

At least a couple of years...Although I think about buying them sometimes, but the fact that they're 25 bucks often keeps me from doing it.
