When is the best time to a billing period to cancel with ETF?

I'm planning on jumping ship from Verizon on both of my cell phones. I know I'll bit hit with an ETF and I'm not too concerned about that.

My big question is when during my billing cycle should I have my service with them be cut? The goal behind this is to avoid having to pay the ETF as well as a normal statement.

Say my billing period begins on the 15th, do I port the number out (disconnecting from VZW) on the 14th? Or the day it is set to begin?

Kind of a stupid question, but worth asking I think.

I would ask if they pro-rate for the month when you cancel in the middle of your service.

It doesn't matter. Your service will stop on the day you disco and they will refund any amount you pay in advance. But you don't want to pay in advance, right? Well they bill a month in advance. So your only option to avoid having to wait for a refund would be this:

Don't pay next month's bill. Cancel your service at the end of the calendar month but before you due date. That will make it so you can still port your number out because you won't be past due so there won't be any issues there.

PS: I hate proration. I deal with that crap every day.

I've always wondered how it's postpaid if I'm prepaying for it. Why is it different from prepaid?

prepay=phone stops working when you run out of minutes
postpaid=you run up a bill when you run out of minutes

I like the trend Tmobile is setting with no contracts. I'll happily bring my own phone not to have to deal with contracts.
