I want to rebuild for Crysis, but it doesn't seem like the current hardware can hack it. When are the next generation of nvidia cards suppose to arrive? For those of you playing the crysis demo at a reasonable resolution, does it still look really good compared to other games?

No one knows as far as I've read, but hopefully soon. I will pick one up when the GTX is released.

And as for Crysis I play it on a mix of medium, high and very high settings and I get pretty decent FPS, 30-40+. I can only play it on 1600x1200 though. 1900x1200 gives me major lag.

I noticed in your signal that you have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 running with Vista Ultimate, did experience any issues with your sound card? I am looking to upgrade my current sound card to a X-FI prior to upgrading to Vista Home premium 64 bit. I also plan to get the new 8800 GTS (G92) when it comes out in early December or hopefully late November.

it already did, they just keep on calling it 8800 for some reason...

The 8800GT and and the NEW 8800GTS (comming out next week) both use the G92 chip, a lower end GeForce9 chip... while everything else is using the year old G80 chip design... nVidia is still calling them 8800 because they don't want to upstage their 700$ 8800 ultra (noone will be buying it if they think the gf9 is right around the corner...) nvidia is in control of the market right now so they are tight lipped about improvements...

Well it works, but the drivers are really bad. It used to work a lot better in XP. Now I get this weird sound in some games for a few minutes and then it goes away. It's really strange. Also sometimes I'll be playing music and I'll get a slight freeze or the music will skip for a second or two. It's pretty rare though and overall it still works. The main deal is that the drivers are just really glitchy.

I might get a Prelude though, not sure. I think you will be fine if you install your SB Audigy 2 in Vista. Just be prepared for some bugs, though you probably won't notice anything right away (or maybe you will).

So should I go with a 8800 gt or wait tell Jan or Feb to play the game? I'm in no hurry. I just want to play max settings at 1600/1200 with decent frame rates. I am guessing the 8800's can't do this?

what's a prelude? I'm looking at the Sound Blaster X-FI Platinum Fatality Champion series with the front panel inputs but some of the recent reviews haven't been that promising.

the game isn't even OUT yet... wait for a month until after it is out and drivers get optimized for it, then make up your mind...

...second that Taltamir! Wait until it comes out and see if SLI works well. If so, then the 8800gt's in SLI will likely be the ticket. If it does, Ima add another GTX, if the prices ever relax!

Peas.Out.

The Geforce 9000 would likely be the slowest card in the G100 series and likely will be outperformed by a 7900GTX.

(I'm just being scarcastic).

Probably the source of the current rumors about the 9800GTS/GTX coming out before X-Mas and projected specs.

http://www.overclock3d.net/new...force_9800_gtx_specs/1

The original post contained some spelling errors and did not seem very credible.

Still, Q2 2008 isn't too long a wait considering none of the current cards, including the upcoming revised 8800GTS, will be able to handle near future DX10 titles at high res/max settings. Not too many people are willing to shell out $300+ for a stop gap.

This was published 7/25/07...

Lots of "supposed journalists under NDA" were claiming this...1 TFLOP beast coming out...2400MHz shaders...don't believe Fud or Inquirer...until it became apparent with the release of the 8800GT that those two sites were in fact correct and all this 9800GTX nonsense was just BS. If Inquirer is right the next high end with be 8800GX2, just like 7900GX2 was the top end the previous generation.

http://www.auzentech.com/site/products/x-fi_prelude.php

It's basically a top of the line X-Fi card made by Auzentech - not Creative. Auzentech build their cards with much better hardware and materials and really produces a better product overall. It also boasts a lot of features though some are not yet enabled and will only be so after a promised driver update near the end of the year. They still use the Creative drivers I think but the overall product is much better. It's the first non Creative card to feature EAX 5 too if you are a gamer, which I am guessing you are.

You think it's really going to be called the 9000 series? Given that ATI already did a run of 9xxx cards that are now outdated it seems likely the NVidia is going to come up with a different name for the next gen cards.

they are already doing that (not calling them a GF9)...

the G92 based cased cards now are called 8800GT... and the next ones will be 8800GTS (v2 maybe?)...

thanks for the links, too bad they don't have anything with fron panel inputs. I might have to overlook that as a requirement and just go for the quality.
