That is a current good price for a full retail model with heatsink and cooler fan. OEM models are available for $213-$216. $20 bucks for the fan and heatsink is a good deal. I just got a 2.53 last month and it is doing very well - got it at Googlegear.

BSOM! It is the retail version of the P4 2.53G. How do you tell the difference - and what difference does it make? OK - I found it - according to this link it is C1 Stepping. :)

OEM versions have shorter warranties, usually from the Vendors ranging from 15 - 60 days, and do not include the fan/heatsinks. While the Retail versions come in the box from Intel, include the heatsink and fan, and have a 3 year warranty.

Few hardware companies (Intel included) would ever cut prices before Christmas. Thus November/December prices will almost always stay steady. Then after Christmas, when sales plummet, is a good time to cut prices. Intel, and many others, tend to cut them late in January. However this Inquirer article says the cut is going to be late February. The Inquirer isn't always right, but I wouldn't expect a cut anytime soon.

Normally, a price cut occurs when a new model is introduced - everything then moves down a notch in the food chain. As the P4 2.6, 2.8 etc. are stocked, the slower ones drop. The 2.53 is a good chip and very popular at the present. Look at the ganga deals on the 2.4 at the present time. (Newegg)
