Wow, im on the edge here after reading reviews on this thing. As soon as Newegg has these on there front page im like a mom at toys r us rushing the tickle me ELMOS. No joke here, now on to my question. Anyone know more than i do here and actually know a release date or what?

Im hoping its sub 300 dollars cause i doubt ill hop on it if its anywhere above. Some pics would be great if anyone has any. Thanks in advance

Well here will be the system once that thing comes.

Asus K8T800
1 gig of Corsair XMS 3200
(hopefully 2) Seagate SATA 120 giggers
9800 NP (not sure what brand yet)
Antec power supply (prolly tru 430)
Antec P160

then drives etc...

Anyone else read the reviews on that core? Its actually the best thing ive read about in a while (exept huge harddrives getting cheap)

omg, after actually looking through the A64s they do have it although i thought "newcastle" was the newest CORE.

and what i was doing is searching by credentials of core , and newcastle was not listed in the options. And it still says "CLAW HAMMER" core on the 3000+??

hmm
wow cheap too : )

thanks i guess ill read more into it

actually it is physically still a clawhammer but it only has active 512K of the cache so it isn't a realy NewCastle but it basically is.

It appears as though you would be correct. Hopefully that setup will work out for you. When you have the extra $$ upgrade the RAM and get a board that goes higher than 3200 if you plan on running a 64 setup.

My K8USA officially supports up to 400DDR as well, but because you can adjust the FSB it'll run as fast as your ram and CPU can handle ;) Esspecially since for some reason mine goes to 511FSB in the bios

Probably hoping to suck in some buyers by creating the illusion this thing has mad overclocking potential despite the fact that 230fsb seems to be the limit with my present setup, solid@230fsb but won't boot@231 :frown:

From what I have read the 3000+ is not Newcastle and many people have been wrong in calling it that. The 3000+ is Clawhammer. Apparently Newcastle will be released alongside the 939 Pin Athlon 64's and will start at 2.2 Ghz.

Correct... I was quite shocked to see AnandTech say it's a Newcastle when it's most definately not.

The Newcastle will only have 512k L2 cache. This 3000+ that we have right now has the full 1 MB L2 on it, but half of it is disabled. Just like the Thorton is a Barton core with the full 512k L2 on it, but half is disabled.
