Seriously. And Lexus wonders why they have trouble appealing to younger audiences.
The only trouble Lexus has is keeping enough bulldozers on hand to move all the phat cash they're raking in into their vaults.

Lexus marketing has been directly quoted in a number of car publications lamenting the fact that they have had trouble attracting younger buyers. They were talking about how the new IS and the next gen hybrid performance vehicles were part of the strategy help bring them in.

The fact that Lexus is a profit center doesn't mean they don't have their struggles. Cadillac once made gobs of money appealing exclusively to an older audience too.
The difference between Lexus and Cadillac is that Lexus has never built crap cars. They're too busy being the number one luxury brand in the states.

Cadillac lost more due to the fact that it was seen as an 'old man's car' than anything else. This is something Bob Lutz himself has commented on - thus the attempt by Caddy to reinvent itself with fresher, more exciting cars. It's what drove the radical arts & sciences styling lately.

Why do you think every luxury car maker's strategy is to get young people sold on their entry-level cars and to keep their loyalty through to the upper tiers? Because they don't want to become the next Cadillac.

Uh, the previous-gen IS was about the cheapest car in its segment.
Wasn't the previous one around $40Kish too?

Try $30k-ish, with dealers often unloading them in the high 20s.

I called a local dealer, as I'm in the market for a car and would rather wait to evaluate the IS250. Dealer said October would be first deliveries, but I'm not convinced they really know for sure. He said they wouldn't even have pricing and option details until late July, but he tried to get me to pre-order one!?!

Probably just a waiting list or something

That's what he explained, after I asked him why I would pre-order a car without 1) ever seeing one in person 2) driving one 3) knowing how much it will cost.

When I asked him if there was any problem "pre-ordering" a car, and then deciding not to buy it, he started talking sideways.

Bingo. I like that my new car "only" has ABS and electronic brake distribution. I don't really care for the electronic throttle but it doesn't seem to be dumbed down any.

42K. Ouch.

And no Std. Tranny option, ah well.

You're looking at Canadian prices.....

candian to us rate = .82

.82 * 42K = 34.4K sticker USD for fully loaded IS350? I doubt it.

It comes out October 15th... prices haven't been officially announced, but word on the street is:

Base Price of Lexus IS (250 RWD) will be just shy of $30,000.

Fully loaded Lexus IS 250 AWD = $35,000-$36,000
Fully loaded Lexus IS 350 = $42,000-$44,000

Are you sure? Toyota has the Scion line for a reason.[/quote]

Lexus =! Toyota

I dont seem to remember any 18 year olds making 60k owning a 42k lexus.. except for the one that drug deals

Does fully loaded mean with Navi??
if so thats a pretty good price

but ill have to wait for the coupe 😀

I drove both the IS250 and IS350 at the Lexus Test Drive event... ran it hard... the 250 is horrid for that price... the "you're about to break me" warning light actually came on...

If you're going to buy an IS, it better be the 350... that machine was ridiculously overpowered. 😉

going to lexus event tomorrow.

will update with some pics 🙂

cant wait !!! new IS looks amazing.

hope they have a good test track.

😀

I didn't even bother to drive the 250. The 350 was awesome, I thought the steering was a tad too light though.

I drove the 330i, and I gotta say that it did feel a little more confident going into those corners.

Yeah.. test drove 250 350 and 330i . too cold to stand out there.. (chicago location)
First of all, I think IS had some crappy tires, it was too easy for me to lose grip etc..
I was impressed with interior and fresh looking exterior. I personally like the cockpit like settings, but it might be hard for someone who is Fat.
I think 330i's suspension was firmer and easy to predict. iS felt jumpy and bouncy...
oh well.. at least I love how they accelerated, although 250 only has 200or so hp, it felt good enough and 350 was definatly fast.

but i really liked the look of the car and interior 🙂

Just got back from the Lexus dealership in San Diego (Kearny Mesa) and they had two IS250s. They sure do look sweet in person. Sticker price on the cars were 31k for the base model.
