When is it time to retire a hat?

When do you guys think its time to retire a hat? I personally think that dirt and wear give a hat some character, and a hat should only be retired when something rips or breaks on it.

I have been wearing the same New Orleans Saint hat since I was about 11 or 12. Its been through alot (skateboarding, gigs, bicycling, changing oil, etc). It will be with me for the rest of my life, only other cap I have is a captain morgan gold cap.

Dont retire it until it either reeks like dead animal or is so broken you cant wear it. Other than that you keep the hat.

I finally retired the hat I always wear after 6 years. It's been through so many tennis, softball, hockey, , basketball, running, etc so its gotten to the point that the sweat/water from rain have almost hardened the fabric.
