There are several good IE-based programs that integrate tabbed browsing into the IE shell. I've used both Avant Browser and Crazy Browser and recommend them if you're looking to get tabs into IE.

There will be no major version update to IE until Longhorn is released, so we're still looking at about 2 years.

It's going to come. If you use Visual Studio.NET it's in there. But Gecko has so many other advantages over MSHTML that tabs alone would only serve to make IE bearable when I was on a CPU that I couldn't run a gecko or KHTML browser on.

I just like using the big standard browser.. and if it had tabs I'd be happy to use it. But i would miss other firefox features as well..

Hopefully never... I hate tabbed browsing. However, if anything, it should be an option.

IE probably won't get tabbed browsing from Microsoft until Longhorn's release. In the meantime, I suggest you just use IE only for Windows Update and FireFox or Mozilla for everything else. Tabbed browsing is a great feature and I fail to see why some people don't like it. Technically, its optional in every browser that already supports it. You are cable of opening a second FF window just as easily as you can a second FF tab. Tabs are just quicker and cleaner on your taskbar, not to mention it takes less RAM to have one FF window with 10 tabs then 10 FF windows with one tab each.

Yes, I love tabs. Another thing I notice at the AT forums is that i get a "quick reply" thing on the bottom of every thread.. I dont get that using IE.. why? I love it.

because the quick reply is suppose to be something you can hit on any reponse and have a new window pop up, hence avoiding the need to scroll all the way down.... it's an IE only feature, the bottom box is a work around for firefox. dunno how opera handles this.

i never noticed it using IE.. i prefer it at the bottom anyway personally.. makes more sense to me to read the entire page then reply rather than reply before scrolling down

TB is so overrated. I tried 20 million times to see the benefits but it doesn't... benefit. I don't know why people have more than 5 browser windows open at the same time in the first place. I guess that's my problem.

well if your taskbar is already crowded, saving a few slots that would otherwised be used for non-tabbed browser windows really helps for me.

with TB, a nice thing you can do is that while browsing, you can just middle-click all the links that you want to read from a page and have them open in the background. then later go and read them all. this way the new windows don't open up and cover up the original screen disrupting your selection. then there is also the benefit of the cleaner taskbar.

having tabs also allow you to group open pages into tabs in seperate windows when multitasking

it's not overrated. but i guess like everything else, it's not for everybody.

Of course it does, it's much more manageable than using full windows for each page and tab sessions are great because everytime I start my browser it restores the last tabs I had open. And it's great to be able to middle-click on a link and have it open in the background in a new tab, I can read an article (or thread list) middle-click on all the ones that interest me and by the time I'm at the bottom of the page they're already loaded and waiting.

I don't know why people have more than 5 browser windows open at the same time in the first place. I guess that's my problem.

Apparently you don't multitask very well.

Ever opened a thread with 10 or so pics in it?
Try looking at all the pics with IE, it'll be great fun.
Now, use FF, open up the pics in background tabs by middle clicking, finish reading the thread while the pics load, then look at all the pics that have been loading.
I can be 99% sure FF will be quicker to do this with.

Definately. When I peruse a website and I come across many things that are interesting I open them up in tabs. Otherwise in something like IE I would have to open a dozen different windows, or I would have to read thru each section then hit back back back and start on a new section. It's such a nice convenience.

Or when I am reading a post and I need to look up something in google I just hit ctrl-t and do a quick search then if I find what I like I read it and if I want back to the original page I just hit ctrl-w and I am back at it automaticly, even when I have many other non-browser windows that I am switching back and forth from.

Have you ever used the RSS feed option on Firefox? On my bookmarks toolbar I have a half a dozen or so menus from different websites that are updated via RSS feeds. For instance if you open up www.anandtech.com you'll notice that you have a little orange icon pop up in the lower right hand corner of the screen. If you click on it you have the option to bookmark one or 2 rss feeds from anandtech (new news, or new articles).

What I do when I get on my computer I open up the browser, go thru the various feeds and open interesting looking articles in tab after tab after tab thru middle clicking. Then I just read thru them and close out them as I finish. It's quick, easy, efficient and tabs make it easy to keep everything originized.

MyIE2 is Maxthon now and it's great.

Yep I`ve tried Maxthon and it`s impressive, good alternative to IE users that want IE based browser with extras like tab browsing, mouse gestures, skinning ,ad blocker etc... ..It does have very impressive features.

You`ll get lots of different replies about tab browsing,it`s one feature that I can live with or without,I do think it`s sometimes overrated. In my eyes it`s many things that make a great browser not forgetting stability.

Zuni didn't feel like making some *TINY* code changes to make the IE-style quick-reply work in other browsers .

i dont know... firefox rules. i dont think i have much desire to go back to IE anyway.. theres just too many little touches added into this browser to go back.

the RSS feeds are a really cool feature. i dont use them.. but at least i can.

i dont know much about opera.. but dont care cuz firefox is the bomb and free...
and IE is included in teh price of windows so i have two choices i dont have to pay extra for.. i like innovation but not at additional cost. :D
