When is Firefox 3 expected?

Is this supposed to address the huge friggin' memory problem? FireFox using 630mbs of RAM is getting kind of old and one of the reasons I've started using Opera more often.

Until my favorite download manager(downloademall) works with it I am going to stick with FF2. I tried it out and it didn't seem drastically different. Hopefully they will finally fix the memory leak that they should have taken care of ages ago.

I'm trying out Opera right now and I definitely think it runs smoother and quicker than Firefox, plus it it's not raping my meager 1gig of RAM...

Ok guys if you just close FF once in a while, it won't kill you, but if you're like me and you leave your computer on 24/7, and never close FF, yeah it's gonna gobble up memory like mad. After 3 days, do you really need 5 windows each with 10 tabs? I bet half of those you stopped looking at 48 hours ago. Just close the damn windows. Even IE will start gobbling stuff up if you leave it open 3 days after doing general browsing.

The funny thing is I love Opera but not for it's RAM usage. I've just gotten spoiled by Wand, mouse gestures, speed dial and other features. I guess the RAM/stability is just icing on the cake?

I just wish more sites were Opera friendly and it rendered pages more accurately.

What's new/different/great about the new address bar?

It takes the Page Title into consideration. For example, take Off Topic:
http://forums.anandtech.com/categories.aspx?catid=38

Right now, if I type "anandtech" into the address bar, the above URL will not appear in my list because the first letter does not match. I have to type "forums...." With Firefox3, I can type "Off Topic" or "anandtech" or "catid=38" and they'll all work.

It also gives more emphasis to the favicon, making it easier to pick a link from a drop-down list of addresses.

They've also added something called smart bookmarks. While I didn't play around with this a lot, I saw one smart bookmark called "most frequently visited" which may prove useful.

Opera leads the market in browser innovation. But Firefox users quickly come up with add-ons that replicate the goodies in Opera. I have add-ons for Speed Dial and Mouse Gestures, two features that (I believe) first appeared in Opera.

Reports claim that Firefox3 beta3 fixed a lot of memory leaks. I'll wait till the final version comes out before deciding for myself.

I used Opera a few years ago, but I found that Firefox overtook it. Is it worth giving Opera another try?

Do you remember if that was pre or post version 9.x?

I don't understand how people can manage more than 7-8 tabs in a window. I've never had more than two browsers open, with not more than 8 tabs open per window. Doesn't all that crap get hard to manage after a while?

I tried the beta of FF3 and found it buggy. It seemed to mess up certain webpages where logon credentials are stored. It would put the username/password in fields that aren't supposed to have username/password.

Assuming all the open tabs are of the same site/forums, I think anything under 35 is manageable. When I view a forum I like to open threads in new tabs in a group then read each tab individually. It helps a lot especially on a busy forum like AT.

I can't wait just to get a decent Spell Checker built in. The current one doesn't do a very good job of offering suggestions but I keep getting updates that the new one is much better,
