Mr golem,

We were told a follow up review would be coming on 02/23/2007 03:17 PM ... don't think we ever got that follow up review due to waiting on that magic bios update that never came to give them a chance at a fair review.

"purchasers should have also done more research themselves before purchase instead of just relying on Anandtech's review"

All the reviews I found on this board prior to purchasing all the way up to EOL have been great reviews... (9.5 over at TT with editors choice award) doesn't matter what site you look at. And the only forum that I've been able to find that dealt with this board is right here at anandtech. Sounds like you should do a bit more research before popping off at the mouth like that and trying to start a flame war.

my $.02,

Sterman

Just for my clarity, how long have you guys had this board, has it been a year and the intel chips changed from the original road map (board's out of warranty), or is it less than 90 days (defective, gimme my money b!tch)

--edit-- either way Gigabyte should be doing something to support the $350 motherboard that people were happy to pay for on the bleeding edge.

I've had mine since August last year when supposedly all this board needed was a decent bios revision. Now that this board is EOL and the "cat is out of the bag" regarding 1333 fsb quad support... a lot of people that were willing to wait for a bios upgrade are done waiting and a bit pi$$ed off.

I bought mine from the first batch that Gigabyte released to NewEgg. Pretty much day one of widespread availability.

If you need a date, I can search through my order history at the 'Egg.

Am I right in that Anandtech's review was done around 2/2007 and the problems surfaced in the later half of that year?

Yes, my jaw dropped when Gigabyte USA told me to do this. I told the support rep. (who was the manager of the first line staff) that I needn't send them the picture on the box because it clearly states the same on their website, and asked why they didn't have the info on a box of one of their products. Gigabyte USA's response "I don't know what website you are getting that information from", to which I replied...Gigabyte's USA site for the 680iDQ6 specs, to which she replied "I don't know/can't get to that website". Fricken wow. After I sent them the pictures, this was the last response I got from them on Feb. 4, 2008 almost two months ago...

"Dear customer,

Please provide the product specs of the processor you are using and we will
forward the information to the headquarters in Taiwan for review of this
case. The product spec code should be located on the box or on the
processor. Example *BX80562QX6850SLAFN*

If you're going to keep chiming in you should at least click a couple links. The problems were there from day 1. The huge issue is that gigabyte declared this year old motherboard is End Of Life, that means no more updates, support or anything, on a board that cost $350 and advertised itself as a board that would live thru the next generation of processors, that is so far beyond acceptable that I'm considering harassing their tech support myself.

Good Afternoon Everyone.

Things seem to be percolating along at rather a brisk pace on the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 motherboard fiasco. Earlier today I was inclined to post a comment on the TweakTown.com Forum concerning this whole matter. I thought some of you might like to read it:

Good Morning Everyone.

I agree that we should allow Mr. Collin a reasonable couple of days to attract the attention of the senior management at Gigabyte to this impending FIRESTORM. Quite frankly, Gigabyte could very easily step up and make all of this right and thereby substantially repair their damaged reputation in very short order. Unfortunately, that has NOT been the manner, at least so far, of Gigabyte's response (or virtual lack thereof).

As some of the readers/posters may know, there are very strict laws in many jurisdictions that would provide significant relief to a class of consumers that have essentially been defrauded by this kind of conduct, the likes of which is endemic to the present situation. For example, consider how the EU justice system brought the biggest software company in the world, Microsoft, to its knees over a simple thing like Internet Explorer.

There are a number of very tech-savvy law firms that specialize in litigation of this type, since the law firm is virtually guaranteed to get all their professional fees, expenses and costs paid by the offending manufacturer. And since Gigabyte maintains a corporate office in many countries, they are subject to being sued in those jurisdictions. Considering the blatant false advertising claims printed on the Gigabyte product literature and packaging, and on their web site (until the last day or so when it mysteriously was taken down), this case could easily qualify for class-action status in most jurisdictions, and is a virtual guaranteed winner.

If Gigabyte holds to their present course of denial, etc, then sooner or later (probably sooner), such a lawsuit will land. That is especially true since the first plaintiff to file will likely control the entire class-action lawsuit. Gigabyte could also be faced with paying a significant judgment, which itself could be subject to a multiplier in many jurisdiction depending on the egregiousness of the deceitful conduct. That could make the final outcome a whopper!

From the ongoing tenor of the posted comments (not to mention what those who are not posting are thinking or doing), I would suspect that Gigabyte has a VERY SHORT window of opportunity to step forward and DO THE RIGHT THING.

GIGABYTE, YOU BUILT AND SOLD THIS FAILED MOTHERBOARD - NOW STAND UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT!

Unfortunately, later posts on the TT Forum indicate that Gigabyte's Tech Support folks are still trying to patch together some sort of Beta BIOS in a rather lame attempt to quell the Firestorm. Me thinks it's much too little, much too late! I trust Mr. Gary's judgment on this situation, namely, that this board cannot be fixed to work reasonably with Quad Core 2 Extreme processors - end of story.

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice evening. TheBeagle :D

Hello Mr Beagle,

You are right. We've been offered the F5g beta @TweakTown which is nothing new. As I've already posted there and at our old thread here at AT, this beta BIOS is at least 5 months old and it has its problems. In other words we've been offered nothing. Nice..................

Gents,

Remember though that mr TT is not a giga employee... he's just a moderator trying to help out :p. Lets see what ol Colin can come up with before we start throwing stones over there.

In the meantime... I found a fun little site that has been rather amusing... http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw Customer support has never been staffed better imho.
Just ask them about getting a refund and we can all compare answers later :p If it wasn't happening to me I'd find it all mildly amusing.

regards,

Sterman

I really hope that Colin does have something new for us but I somehow doubt it.

Mr TT mentioned in one of his last posts that he just got the BIOS from GB.

Hell, we new about it since October.

I hear ya there blazer... If mr TT was a giga employee i'd be really chapped right now. I'm not sure if they realize that some of the people involved here have been following this board since before it was even for sale yet. Trying to dust off some old bs and pass it off as new isn't going to work this time.

regards,

Sterman

ps dang beagle and his regards ;) now he has me doing it... Good day.

Good Evening Mr. Sterman & Everyone.

I suppose that emulation is the highest form of flattery. LOL

Anyway, I've always found that trying to maintain a reasonably civil tone, even in the face of overwhelming aggravation, tends to disarm one's opponents, since it's an atypical response. Of course, the old quote that "some foul creatures can only be killed" is certainly still quite true.

BEST REGARDS to everyone. Have a nice evening. TheBeagle :D

Unfortunately, the GIANT Gigabyte DES, etc. advertising banners on every forum page at this website will most likely preclude any comment or follow-up from Anandtech. I bet those banners pay for a lot of jobs at Anandtech. Suxors.

I see the same thing with reluctance to produce XP64bit benchmarks vs Vista64bit. Anand just refuses saying it's orphaned. BS. I can get drivers for every product I own. I sent an email to tweaktown thinking I could get a response from them and CC'd the editor there (on the 9800GX2 article...because they had the balls to show XP32 is about 25-30% faster than Vista in games!). Neither person from the article has responded, Editor or reviewer. It was nice and polite too, just asking if they could add 64bit XP to see if there is a benefit over XP32. SILENCE. Got the same thing from Toms. Is it a qualification for Microsoft ads that you must NOT speak about XP64 or your ad money dries up?

I'm going to test this theory shortly as I'm ordering another drive just to swap them out and test clean vs. clean os (I have others but they're loaded). Then spam it to all the forums everywhere and make MS and the rest choke on it  OR I guess I'll eat my hat if it XP64 sucks...ROFL. Doubtful though, it's quick and all drivers have the same date as their 32bit /vista counterparts (last month for ATI/AMD and Dec for Nvidia). Heck MS would like you to believe you need certain hardware for Server2003. My 32bit drivers for Nforce chipset/Nvidia cards etc worked fine in 2003 when I tested it. Everything loaded. Even Nvidia acts like there isn't a driver for 2003 32bit. Yet XP's install fine.

It sucks when ads/money corrupt everything. Google is dominating because they give US what we want. Consequently, like it or not everyone has to spend a LOT on advertising there. Anand etc should follow suit. JUST TELL IT LIKE IT IS, AD SPACE BE DAMNED! It wouldn't take long and everyone would realize you're the only place to get REAL NEWS. Ads would come crawling back for the eyeballs you've gained. Look at SEARCH-in-SEARCH at google. Again, giving us relevant results at the expense of advertisers. They can take them to court over it, whine about it etc but they still have to advertise there because that's where we go. Take the high road Anandtech. Start a complaint page like maximum PC's WatchDOG page in their mag. Nail bastard products (not that I know anything about this board...LOL). Nail Neweggs bastard UPS hard drive shipping (free fedex instead of free ups please or even $2 extra)...I could go on and on.

Rant over :)

[/b]

I will find out the current status of this board with Gigabyte and what plans they have concerning the problems about 1333FSB support. We have been on Gigabyte to do something about it and take care of its customers. These requests have ranged from upgrades to the 780i product (which we found out will be produced now - edited) or an Intel chipset board to rebates. I will speak with Gigabyte on Sunday night and see what they are thinking, planning, or trying to do to take care of this situation.

Here's a thought -- how many of you bought your boards using Visa cards? Check into the extended warranties provided by your credit card to see if you can get a refund that way. Product fails to work as advertised == defective product.

Yes, GB gets off the hook without supporting their users. And I'dcertainly keep this in mind if I'm looking at a high end board in the future. But at least you may not be as screwed as you think you are.

I spoke at length with Gigabyte today. They will have an official response/plan next week for everyone who owns this board. I cannot go into details as they are being finalized now but just hold on for a few more days, please.

On a side note - For those who believe that we will not hold a manufacturer's feet to the proverbial fire because they advertise with us, well, that is just not the case. ;)
