When I think Civil War Reenactments...

I think of remembering a war based over slavery and government at that time.

What I don't understand is that there are a TON of people that participate in these events and it amazes me they don't do other wars.

I know that alot of it is collection, history telling, and showcasing old war time relics... but at the end of the day it in my opinion is about slavery and the North/South.


I hope I'm not going into a P/N topic, but I never see African American's participate in these "reenactments".

Am I crazy, or just looking into this too much?
 
When I think war re-enactments I think of fat dweebs dressing up and playing with toy guns, or veterans who failed to find anything meaningful in their lives beyond the war.
 
I don't think you understand that they don't care what anyone else thinks about it. They do what they enjoy, and they enjoy participating in civil war reenactments.
 
Civil war reenactments are like some kind of weird American socially-acceptable live-action RPG.

It's a way to relive history, and have a reason for doing so. There isn't a hell of a lot you can do with 1862 by itself, but if you throw a war into the mix, you have an occupation. Add to that the artifacts, and replicas, you have a fun way of spending some time that doesn't entail gelling your brain in front of the TV.

My first thought as well.

Personally, I'd love to see a Dessert Storm reenactment. Where do we get the tanks though?

Paintball =/= war re-enactments. Paintball is an actual competitive game requiring skill, teamwork etc. War re-enactments are the adult equivalent of me and my brother playing with toy guns in the back yard.
 
I sometimes wonder how they decide who lives and who dies in those reenactments..

"I got you!"

"No I got you!!!"
 
The battle of Tupelo was fought in and around where my subdivision is located. Never seen any reenactments in my yard. There is a monument and some cannons down the street in a small park.

They'd have to build jungle and desert battlefields to "do other wars." The Civil War was fought right here. They can go to the actual sites and do the recreations.

QFT. You do see French and Indian War reenactments and Revolutionary War reenactments too. I know in my neck of WNY, those two are significantly more likely to happen, but thats because battles happened much closer there than they did in the Civil War.

I'm actually going to a Civil War reenactment today, as I'm a huge history buff, especially of that era. I'm sorry that your piece of shit country hasn't made enough contributions to the world for you to worry about yourself, making you feel the need to make fun of what other people do. Troll away good sir though, that's what you do best. I don't know you personally (thank god), but you remind me of a dude with a severe Napoleon complex. I had you on ignore for months, back you go. You contribute nothing.
