When i put on my Artic Cooler 7

how bad is that? cause my temps havent really fallen at all. other things that happened during install: i had to try 80 times to get the damn fasteners in, afterwards the black semidetachable fan part of the artic cooler set up came off ( i snapped it back on kinda shoddy ).

e8400...on stock fan was 40'-45' (both cores)

...onAC7 before the fan got knocked off was 40/36, now its 40/40

The factory paste is thermal compound... If you added more, it's probably a real mess down there, which explains your unusual idle temps. I would remove both CPU and cooler, clean them, and do it right. Also, what do you mean the fan came off? Can you take a picture and link?

What really kills me is that, even with a hanging fan, your temps are still better than mine with the same HSF.... rats, I'll start cooking stuff inside this computer soon.

Anyway, ih8regs, as long as the fan is aligned and spinning, that shouldn't be a problem. But as there's also the paste problem, I think you really should take the whole thing out.

For cleaning and reapplying your thermal paste, the Arctic Silver website has very nice instructions.

I don't think your fan is posing a problem, but it's simple stuff, just take it out and put it back on.

My suggestion is that you get rid of the cheap and loud AC Freezer and get yourself a Scythe Ninja. Run it passive during the winter months and put on a fan or something during the hotter months.

You're really going to want to clean things off down there, some alcohol should do the trick.
