When I play a video file in full screen it has lines running left-right that distort it.

I've tried playing it in WMP, Winamp, and PowerDVD. It's like it is displaying three copys of the video: One in the normal area, one to the left, and one to the right. It looks like the left-right copys are missing horizontal lines. It ruins the videos far as watching goes. And since I've tried it in three different programs and used different video files I'm thinking that it's some setting.

This is really bugging me. Anyone know what's wrong?

Is this happening in both fullscreen and windowed mode or just fullscreen?

let's try a test - in powerdvd (or any of the other programs that have the option), turn off hardware acceleration. then run fullscreen.

I turned it off in WMP and it worked. Thank you.
Should I turn it off in the right click desktop>properties>advanced, so it's off for my computer as a whole?

You could, but i'm not sure what the overall effects for other applications would be. Ideally, we'd want to fix the problem and still be able to keep it on. I know about this because i've experienced it also and haven't found the ideal solution. What's worse is on the same hardware setup i might see the problem during one reformat, and then won't see it later when i reformat again. i haven't narrowed down what it is exactly. You do have the latest drivers for sure though, yes?

Anyhow, a temporary fix is better than no fix at all i suppose. Maybe someone else can pick up on this and let us know what the real deal is.

Turns out I was one version behind on my nVidia drivers, so I installed them and it fixed the problem. I turned hardware acceleration back on in WMP, worked fine.
Tried some videos in PowerDVD and Winamp, worked fine.
So if you have a nVidia card head over to their site and get the newest drivers, should fix it.

HN, do you have a nVidia card? Maybe it's just a problem for them.

Yes to the nvidia card. it might very well be a driver issue which i'll have to keep closer track of next time. Glad to hear things worked out
