when i install windows it says i'm missing a file

i currently dont have any operating system on my hard drive. when i try to install windows xp it says i'm missing a file and that setup cannot continue. how can i put the file onto the disk? or can i still install windows without the missing file?

could also be an issue with your CD drive (assuming the CD is good); if you have another drive to try it might be worth your while.

As others have said, it could be a bad CD image or CD drive. I had this occur to me before, and one of the problems I found was that the PC had some bad memory.

I was actually having the same problem a few weeks ago with my XP disc. Luckily, it didn't have SP2 integrated on it. So, I reburned it with SP2 integrated, and it re-installed just fine.

Maybe the file it's having a problem with is updated with SP2.

BUT, I reccomend going this route: Use Autostreamer to create an image of Windows with the SP integrated. You'll need your original CD and the downloaded service pack.

Believe it or not, it is most likely a problem with your memory, verify that your cd is ok by attempting set up on another computer, or another cd in the problem computer. If the cd works in another computer, or a new one doesnt work in your computer, Try replacing your memory.
