When I "express uninstall all AMD software", are my AMD chipset drivers removed too?

Question is in the title.

My previous PC had an Intel CPU/Chipset, with an AMD GPU. Whenever I wanted to do a clean re-install of my graphics drivers, I would select "Express uninstall all AMD software" in Catalyst Install Manager, and I knew that only my graphics drivers would be removed.

But now, my current PC is completely AMD... processor, chipset, and graphics card, everything. So let's say I want to do a clean install of my graphics drivers: When I select "Uninstall all AMD software", is it removing my chipset drivers as well?

To be safe, I've been re-installing my chipset drivers everytime I do a clean install of my graphics drivers, just in case. But this might be completely unnecessary. I don't know for sure.

Anyone know?

Yes, yes they are. Do not select "express uninstall ALL AMD software" if you have an AMD CPU/mobo. I made the mistake of doing this with a friend's laptop once.

The uninstaller routine will only remove the graphics driver and associated software.
It won't effect your chipset.

Two conflicting answers here. :\ Which is it?

Using the Catalyst Application Manager and selecting "Express Uninstall ALL AMD software" WILL remove the chipset drivers, I know this from experience. When it says all, it means ALL. Not sure what Will Robinson is talking about; he may be referring to a standalone graphics driver uninstallation utility, or in his experience it may have never removed his chipset drivers because he's only had Intel chipsets.

That's stupid. You'd figure that AMD would realize that when someone wants to install new drivers for their AMD GPU that you'd only want to remove the old GPU drivers not the chipset drivers too! How rediculous!

Just do a custom uninstall and select Video driver.

Well...yes, you can do that (only uninstall the video drivers) with the Catalyst Application Manager like Rvenger said. I don't quite see the problem here; "Uninstall ALL AMD Software" (and the ALL is capitalized in the application) does exactly what it says on the tin.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like I was right in my assumption that I should've re-installed my chipset drivers.

I have a friend that has an older computer with an NVidia chipset and NV ethernet. He got a new NV graphics card, and in the instructions, it said to go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall all NV software. Well, he followed the instructions, and lost his connection to the internet. Not good. He fixed it, with the help of a USB flash drive and his PS3. Pretty nifty solution to download files, when your PC is hosed.

Good point. I think they should add a 3rd option besides custom and express uninstall everything; they should add the option to uninstall all video drivers.

Even though technically they already have this ability, it's not as easy because you have to go to custom and then manually select the video-related options and de-select the other/chipset options.

However, part of me feels it's a bit harsh to criticize the "express uninstall all" because that's accurate, and many people want to do just that (video and chipset etc.).

So maybe the complaint is more about wanting a 3rd "easy" option, because currently the "custom" and "all" options fulfill all needs.

If uninstalled, dont the chipset drivers automatically get reinstalled when you boot back up? I would think they do, both AMD and Intel, since backups are kept in windows driverstore.

This is my problem. When I select "Custom Uninstall" and I'm presented with a sizable list, I don't know which AMD components are for my chipset, and which are for my graphics card.

I don't know if it uninstalls the chipset drivers but there is a 'clean uninstall' utility which was recently updated.
AMD put out the utility after criticisms about its (graphics?) drivers not uninstall/installing properly. The uninstall utility still didn't remove all the graphics driver files when I checked but that was last year and it might have been improved since.

I recently used this.. and it removed the USB drivers for some reason.. on an intel chipset. Word of advice: Dont use this utility!!

just reinstall them afterwards. For brazos, the chipset drivers come with the graphics drivers. There'll be a transitionary period where you'll have to manage with the default microsoft drivers.

I am having the same issue. Very irritating. I am not a high end user. I am still learning. AMD's naming scheme isn't helpful in determining what is a graphics driver and what is a chipset file. This is my list. I tried clicking the Display Driver, which automatically ticked the ACP Application. I clicked Display Driver, Steady Video Plug-In, Accelerated Video Transcoding, Drag and Drop Transcoding, and Catalyst Control Center then ended up blue screening during the uninstall. I made a restore point before uninstalling and was able to restore windows, but lost the dump file for the BSoD in the process. The screen went out during uninstall like the usual flicker. The error said something like graphics driver runtime error. For those of us who are still-developing technical sensates, what do we click off to safely uninstall?

AMD APP ADK Runtime
AMD Display Driver
HDMI Audio Driver
AMD USB Filter Driver
AMD Steady Video Plug-In
AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding
AMD Drag and Drop Transcoding
AMD Catalyst Control Center
ACP Application
