When I buy cigarrettes, I can't say "Marlboro"

I'm not a smoker..I have like 1 cigarrette a week, so this isn't a common thing. But when I'm with friends and go to buy a pack of cigarrettes, I can't say "Marlboro" for the life of me. It just doesn't come out right...I say something like "Mabo" over and over..till the 7-11 guy laughs at me, and figures out what I mean. Then I leave the place and I can say it JUST FINE. I'd have no reason to be nervous, I'm over 18 and all and have a valid I.D. I'm thinking maybe this is part of some kind of paranoia disorder, maybe I should go see a doctor?
 
i try to say Marl (rhymes with Carl) - Bor (like the animal, Boar) - O

and when the guy is staring at me thinking "THIS KID IS 14" i just can't say it!
 
Pronounce it like this

Mar-ba-row

At least that's how everyone else pronounces it when they want a box. I work at a gas station locally here and people call it a bunch of things.
"A box of reds" is also a common name for it....if you have the full flavor kings that is.

Since you can say it fine otherwise, I'd say no need to see the doctor. Maybe just bring an empty pack in with you, hold it up and say "gimme one of these" 😀

"Marbs" usually work. Rest assured, 1/week will turn into 1/day and 1/hour. Quit while you are ahead.

I've heard many NY, American born mispronounciations as a pack of "Ma bros", "Mar bros", "Ma berls", "Mar berls" and "Marl berls". So you're not doing too badly. It's 3: "Marl' bu ro" box, or "Marl' bu ros".
